Preferably in Northeastern or Eastern Paris, or even in Montreuil or other very close old suburbs.
I found this site from another and it is wonderful, but most of the apartments listed here are larger and grander than my own flat.
I'm looking for a studio in Eastern Paris, (a cheap one-bedroom would be lovely too) for one or two people, for occasional short-term visits. I'd be alone (doing research) or with my sweetie. We are quiet, middle-aged people but bohemian enough not to expect spa conditions - just clean, reasonably quiet and of course at least a small kitchenette.

I second Annette's suggestion. Luc's apartment looks so charming, and his beautiful garden is a definite plus.

HI, lagatta and welcome to the forum. It would help us to help you if we knew what you had in mind when you say "cheap"! There are a lot of definitions of that term, so could you give us an idea of what you are looking for, and I guarantee that everyone will put their creative thoughts toward helping you find a solution.

Oops....I didn't notice the word "cheap", which, as Becky pointed out, can have a variety of individual interpretations. A definite price-range is needed in order to come up with suitable suggestions. O.K...... I admit that I'm not an apt. expert (in fact, I'm not an expert on anything Paris-related ), but I can vouch for a number of other posters, who have a knack for finding fantastic options.

Again, without knowing what price range you're in, it's difficult. But my new favorite apartment in Paris is on r. St. Jacques in the 5th. Not sure if that's too touristy for you. The apartment is perfect for what you describe. It's a studio; clean, quiet, simple and comfortable. It's also dead cheap at $120 per night. With all the aforementioned qualities, you can't beat that in Paris. vacationinparis.com/apts/id_100.htm

It would be helpful to have a price range. Also how do you feel about stairs. My 22 year old granddaughter and boyfriend will be in an apartment on a top floor with no lift that is really inexpensive in the 11th. It is several flights up, what used to be called a garret.

Thank you all for the vote of confidence! As others mention cheap have different meaning when it relate to one budget. For our large studio, well furnished with a fully equipped kitchen, a laptop with free internet, a large private garden, patio furniture, surrended by a large variety of commerces and only a 12 minutes walk to Place des Vosges, most our clients find that 94 Euros or $145 US a night is dirt cheap.
But of course it all depends of what your "must have" list look like.

Yes, luckyluc's rental looks lovely, and the price is most reasonable. I know that area well - the 11th is very lively but still has normal neighbourhood amenities - and a great street market.
And Luc is from Ottawa! (I live in Montréal).
I don't mind stairs, holger. I can't take them as quickly as your granddaughter - I'd be very interested in more on that cheap rental in the 11th. Cheaper still is better, as long as it is clean.
Happygoin, for professional reasons and friends who live nearby, I'd prefer to be in eastern Paris - I'd rather the 11th or even the 19th or 20th (depending where, of course) than the 5th.
luc, a question on behalf of a friend who is widowed and whom we want to force to go to Paris and enjoy herself. Is smoking allowed in the garden? (I don't smoke, and neither does my sweetie - unfortunately this friend does have that nasty habit).

Yes smoking is allowed in the garden but she MUST keep the French doors closed so the smell does not enter the apartment. I just send you an email with my phone number in case you have more questions.

Hi Luc, I think I know the answer, but I'll ask anyhow. Are you using your place over Thanksgiving week???

Yes over the American Thanksgiving, but we will be home for the Canadian one. Truffaut and his partner will also be in Paris at that time.
