Arrived here yesterday with a minimum of fuss and bother, and are (sort of) settled in at our rental house and awaiting the arrival of family members (and today, meeting with the architect to discuss exicting stuff - kitchen cabinets! tile! door handles! light switches!) Here's where the rest of the family is staying: www.holidaylets.net/properties/4775 I'll post a review of it after their stay ends, but it looks great (we checked it out before selecting it for them). I'll post more about our trip on return (with some photos) but we are looking forward to taking true newbies to some of our favorite places, and seeing a lot more that even we have not yet seen - and on June 6 we will be going up to Paris to introduce them briefly (three days) to a whole new world!

How exciting! I had forgotten you had bought property in France...I think that's the prob with online names only - I find it easier to associate events with people I have met Definitely keep us updated. You'll always have acaptive audience here.

Bonjour, Becky! How nice to see you posting from France! Please spare us no details once you have made decisions concerning your kitchen. I love pretty kitchens, though I have no culinary skills to use in one. That rental house looks very charming and comfortable. I'm sure your family will find it more than satisfactory. Be well and enjoy yourself!

Hi Becky, I was thinking about you last night when they were showing dreadful things on the TV news about floodings in the South-West of France due to huge thunderstorms . Some villages were totally flooded, roads destroyed, etc ... But apparently your place is safe ! And if you are already into door handles or light switches discussions, this must mean that your house is nearly finished ?

My internet access has been very limited, but we are having a "real English breakfast" at a small salon de the in the next village over - and they have wi-fi (known here as "wee-fee"!). It's rained quite a bit, and the Dordogne is into flood stage (although not yet considered dangerous ) Where we are is in gently rolling hills so no danger, but some inconvenience (although we did get a couple of nice days to walk around Beynac, Castelnaud, Domme, etc. with our "newbies" . Hopefully, I will have some pictures that don't just repeat what I've posted before . . . The house is making good progress although it was a little startling to walk in and have the floor all jackhammered up - needed because the pipes and wires and so on will go under the floor, and we also will have radiant heat in the floor. But really fun to see it coming together. I'll check back when I can (and we will have internet access at the apartment in Paris ;D). Take care all! Becky

Well I'm glad you found a place with 'wee-fee' to communicate with us. I'm glad to hear the renovations are coming along (even with the rain) and the radiant heat in the floor will be great. A friend of mine has it and it's wonderful! I'm sure I speak for us all when I say we would love to see some pictures when you can get aroudn to it. Stay dry! Mez

Becky - Thanks for checking in with us and giving us an update. The whole process must be very exciting, even though your floor wasn't looking its very best, to say the least. In any case, it must be fun to see the different stages your house is going through, and I'm certain that you will appreciate the finished product even more. Be well, and enjoy yourself. We're thinking of you.

Becky, do you have any pictures for us hungry vultures yet?! (okay, maybe not quite "vultures", but we're anxious! )
