Just saw the Sophie Calle exhibition at the Bibliothèque Nationale de France in the 2nd arrondisement this weekend. To begin with, the show is in the old reading room, which is worth a visit on its own merit.
I am something of a expo junkie and I am particularly interested in HOW art is presented to the public, which made this show extraordinarily interesting to me. Calle is a multimedia artist who has already had a retrospective at the Pompidou. For this show, Prends soins de vous (take care of yourself) she has taken a Dear Jane letter and given it to 107 women for their interpretation. The women come from every walk of life : Crimiologist, illustrator, psychiatrist, singers, actresses, sharp shooter, spy, ballerina... And they provide their pieces on paper or film. The results are creative and off beat. Even the guestbook was worth a read.
I really LOVED this show and recommend to any and all who are lucky enough to be in Paris at the moment. -ph
