Hello, We are three friends which we are going to be visiting Paris for the first time between 8-18/08. All we need is a simple clean and nice place to stay without any kind of luxury as we prefer to spend extra money in seeing Paris than to the place we are going to stay. (We do need a private room with bathroom though, so we haven't looked to hostels)! After wandering through countless of appartments and hotels we ended up booking Lux Hotel Picpus but we have came up to this hotel: www.ibishotel.com/ibis/fichehotel/gb/ibi/2189/fiche_hotel.shtml which despite the fact that's also a 2-star hotel, it looks pretty nice and with the promotion of 49 Euro per room (instead of the normal 65 Euro) it looks tempting. Do you think we should prefer it? Any other suggestion would be welcome.

Bienvenue à bord Grtt!
Ibis is a reliable chain, clean, plain and no frills but also without any charm whatsoever, you might as well be in Kansas! . For me it does not "feel" Paris. As far as location goes both choice (Picpus or Porte Clichy) are fine since there are subway nearby to bring you into the center of things.
So personally it would depends how much budget is an issue but if I could afford Picpus I would choose it over Ibis.
