I just read elsewhere that the upcoming strike is supposed to be on May 26 as well as May 22 (which I think was mentioned in a thread on here, but I can't find it). Does anyone know whether the May 26 strike is expected to affect TGV travel? We are arriving on May 26 and will take the train directly from CDG to Bordeaux that morning - any thoughts about whether it's likely to be a problem? Thanks all for any insights!

Becky,
I just checked Fodor's. There is a local fellow who always has all the strike info. There is a May Strikes thread. Nothing on it about May 26th. I did ask the question. There should be a response soon....

Great, that's a relief - it just goes to show that you can't believe everything you read!

Thanks for starting this thread, Becky! I arrive on May 25th and I'm as happy as you are to hear that we shouldn't have to deal with a strike on the 26th.

I have always found that Fodor's has a person..Kerouac....who does an excellent job of keeping everyone advised of what is going on with the strikes. He has it all now for what is ahead...
A good source for strikes!!

There was a strike that went on for a couple of days when we were in Paris in October and a Parisian man in front of us mentioned that it was like sport in France! I have to stay that everyone was still very helpful and there was lots of information around. Sorry I couldn't help with strikes in May.

We were in Paris in Nov and the weather while cool was a great relief after our hot summer. The also had transit strikes most of the time we were there. It really wasn't that bad. The buses were running and the metro was still open though with somewhat reduced service but at least it was free!!

It is expected that the 22nd should be a rather tough day, with lots of strikers at the SNCF, RATP and civil servants (like in museums I guess) . No warning for any other May day so far .
BTW, this strike is against a law by which people would now have to work for 41 years in order to be entitled a full-paid retirement .

Thankyou anne - I can see why they want to strike though.

ladyjicky, it may cause you some minor inconvenience, but I wouldn't worry about your safety. These things are typically pretty orderly.
Two more days!

Don't worry, we were in Paris last year when the strikes went on for a whole week and we suffered no inconvenience. The metros were running slowly but FREE! The buses were on schedule and we walked a lot...even on my 70 year old bad feet!

Demarais, my Mum is 73 and has a bad knees and arthritis in her feet so we cannot take the metro for the last thing she wants to do is bust up her knees or feet and end up stuck in bed or worse - a paris hospital (not that the health system is bad there but its $$$$ from Australia and its her "last Hoorah" as she says - so who wants to stuff up your holiday ) If you know what I mean - so - we are going to use the expensive L'open tour bus as our "millionaires Metro"! If it makes it easy for Mum to see everything I want her to see ( I have talked about Paris to her for years - poor thing! LOL) - we will suck it up and pay! LOL I just hope those guys who drive those tourist buses do not strike! I will tell her today (I go over to her place today and we leave there tomorrow) about you and how you coped. Mum gets worried. Thanks Demarais!

New strikes are announced for the 10th and 17th June . According to the OP calendar no member will be in Paris on those dates, so there is no need of a follow up for those strikes, is there ?
