Hi all.
After the success of my last outing to the Opera Garnier, I wanted to repeat it on my next visit.
The only thing playing at this time is an opera (Fidelio), and it's the opening night for that particular opera.
My question is does anyone know if people get more dressed up for opening nights than others? I'm planning on travelling as lightly as possible, so a dress was not going to be on the list.
Thanks Mez

Well, I don't actually "know" the answer, but I'd have to guess yes, people are more dressed up (but, compared to what?) It certainly would be true here, but then again, there still would be a big mix between some women in designer gowns, and people in jeans. I don't think a dress would be strictly necessary if you took some nice slacks (which of course you could wear other places as well) and some sexy sandals and a top, with an interesting piece of jewelry. What great fun!

Opening nights are a little bit more elegant, since there will be more regulars and press critics, but a premiere of Fidelio will not be over-the-top like a world premiere or a fundraising gala. So Becky is right there will be the regular mix of designer jeans and some gowns, therefore any little black number dress up with accessories would be just fine.

Thanks.
I'm still not sure if I want to go - I'm not that familiar with the opera itself. In any case, tickets don't go on sale until July, so I have a bit of thinking time.
