I like and use good hair care products, rather then bring some I am happy to try some in Paris, I am not interested in the really over the top expensive stuff, but I will pay 20- 40 euros for decent shampoo and conditioner. there must be a few popular brands in that range? Are Joico, Alterna, KMS, Biolage, or even Redken available in salons or in stores? ARe there similar brands in that price range?

I would suggest the L'Occitane product line (store on Ile St Louis, and I'm sure elsewhere as well). I haven't tried their shampoo per se but have bought their soaps, bath stuff, moisturizer, etc. for years. Also, there's a Crabtree & Evelyn (love their Aloe Verde and Jojoba shampoos) on St Germain around rue des Sts Peres. Also, try some of the ones you find at the pharmacies - if you have the "Born to Shop Paris" I recall that she talks in there about cosmetics and hair care products, and where to find them. (Sorry, I'd look it up but mine got packed when we moved and I have no idea where to find anything like that now . . . )

KÉRASTASE Can only be bought in hairdressers' salons. Especially the creamy-yellow series "Bain Satin" - mine is #2. Ooooohhhh, sooooo good !!

Glad you asked. I've got Kerastase Resistance Bain Volumactive Shampoo, Expansion Spray & Masque on my shopping list for October (supposedly excellent for fine hair like mine). Gitte, how do I know which salons sell this brand--will I just have to pop my head in and ask, or do you have a better solution?

Thanks Gitte,
P.s. Love the W.C.Fields quote!

Annette - you just keep a look-out for salons as you stroll around in the city. Kérastase-trading salons are everywhere in Paris - and usually you can see what products they sell through the window.
It's really not a problem. There were several in and around Rue Daguerre and Avenue du Maine (and further south in the 14. arr.), where I stayed last month.

As Gitte says, Kérastase is available almost everywhere in Paris. I bought a few of their products last year and liked them well enough. CVS pharmacies are starting to carry them.
Annette, my hair is fine like yours. In December I stopped in at the Keihl's store in the Marais. I tried their Soy and Wheat shampoo and am a complete convert. Although it's expensive (23E for about 10-12 oz bottle) it's really the only shampoo that DOES something to fine hair.

Thanks for the recommendation, Happy! I did a search and see that product line is sold at Nordstrom's, so I'll have a look next time I'm down there. Sounds promising

I believe that I read somewhere that there is a Sephora somewhere. (Perhaps on Champs Elysees) If it is anything like the one here, they will have a very good selection of high end products. I prefer Frederic Fekkai. It smells great and does wonders for my very thick, curly hair.

Yes, the Sephora is on Champse Elysees and is actually open quite late, 11pm or midnight.

It never ceases to amaze me what you can find out on this forum- I too have lots of very curly hair and am constantly searching for the perfect curly hair shampoo . This is going on my list ! TX

Girls, Sephora is all over Paris, there must be several dozen Sephora shops there . You can also try the Marionnaud shops .

Thanks Anne - I went to Marionnaud for a perfume that my sister-in-law had requested (she had a small sample that someone had brought her) but had not thought of them for hair products and similar items.

Becky, some of their shops are perfume and make-up only, but the bigger ones also have a para-pharmacy section .

Check out the Phytotherapie line. It is available at Sephora and in most pharmacies, and is really wonderful. When I used to come to visit, that was my most requested item to bring back for gifts.

And I'll add one more to the mix: René Furterer...Fabulous!! Our Parisian hairdresser used his products on my mom and me when we were in Paris in December...they are the only products that hydrate my dried out, straight iron ruined hair. Thankfully Sephora USA carries them...really, they make my nasty dry frizzy hair shinier than ever!!

So many good suggestions, I am tempted to try all of them( except one for thick hair, drats, you girls have that too good anyways) . This forum is amazing , no question too big or too small. !!
