I've been listening to Pimsler's French CD's in my car (with some success, I'm happy to report!) With this approach, you're not taught specific grammar rules (which is frequently frustrating!), but I'm discovering I'm not as dumb as I thought and I'm gradually figuring out quite a bit along the way. I'm starting to feel good about what I'm learning. Funny thing is...yesterday I had a major "Ah Ha!" moment while stopped at a red light. I was so thrilled and absorbed in the revelation that opened itself before me that I missed the light change and "came to" with the sound of honking horns and angry drivers behind me. OOPS!!!! I was so embarrased! In California we have to quit using cell phones in our cars the 1st of July, and now I'm afraid they might outlaw the use of language tapes while driving as well!

Forget the other drivers, Annette, we are talking about about a breakthrough with French! Well done.

I've tried the CD's in the car, but I always feel like people must think I'm talking to myself as I'm driving along, repeating the French!
I know what you mean about the frustration of not being taught the grammar rules. Rosetta Stone is like that, and its hard when you are the type of learner who needs to know why something is done a certain way. I've ended up suplementing Rosetta Stone with French workbooks and textbooks, and now I have more of those "ah-ha" moments!

goldenmama, don't worry about people thinking you're talking to yourself. These days, what with bluetooth technology, for all they know, you can be talking on the phone.
