While moving I came across the contact information for a gite I rented with friends in October 1995, which we enjoyed a great deal - lovely old (large) farmhouse, centrally located for exploring and for visiting market towns to shop for dinner provisions. Here is a link to the web site: www.en.gites-de-charme-perigord-noir.com:80/. We stayed in La Ferme aux ChĂȘnes, and got a peek into La Petite Forge. There also was a miniscule (deconsecrated, of course) chapel with a small stained glass window, that was part of the complex (and the main house - then occupied by the owners, not sure about now, can't tell whether it's available for rental, had a classic bread oven on the end of the building). The photos of the house we rented looks very much as it was then, although the bathroom looks to have been upgraded. Given the passage of time, it doesn't appear much more expensive than it was then (although off season, in our case the first week of October, was a much better rate and a lovely time of year to visit there). This was an easy drive (maybe 20 minutes) to all the main tourist attractions in the area. It is just outside the village of St Cyprien, which is large enough to have a good sized market a couple of days a week, plus has basic shops etc. and is right on the Dordogne. From there we easily visited Sarlat, Beynac, etc., etc. I may have some photos taken there - if so, I will try to post later.

Thank you for this Becky . The place looks nice indeed, and very reasonnably priced too . I'll keep the adress, since we've never been in this area and the swimming pool would make the place acceptable to my kids . Also, the owners let you rent the house linen and they take care of the house cleaning too, which are MY prerequisite for any home rental . Wasn't it Holger who was looking for a rental in Dordogne ?

Anne, it really was a delightful place and I do recomend it (and it would be especially nice if one wanted a place for a group of families or friends). I think Holger was looking last summer but I'm not sure where she ended up staying (I think in a B&B but have not looked back at her trip report).

Yes of course you are right, Holger was there last summer, but then I am almost certain that someone (else) has planned a week in PĂ©rigord this year ...
