I have already begun to look for a hotel to stay on the night before OurParis' next get-together . Yes I KNOW, the get-together is only in September, and I am only staying for one night, so there is no hurry, and no need to be fussy about a one night stay either . Only I love to investigate about hotels, and also I am very much looking forward to this one week-end just for myself (i.e. away from the family) ;D So I decided to stay on the rive droite and have been looking at three locations : Montmartre, le Marais and … les grands magasins . After investigating on TA and on the hotels’ own website, I have made a shortlist of 3 hotels, one in each location : - Relais Montmartre, rue Constance, 18th arr : my favourite one, except for the fact that the metro isn’t very convenient to gare de l’Est www.relaismontmartre.fr/indexgb.html- Bonne Nuit Paris (B & B), rue Charlot, 3th arr. www.bonne-nuit-paris.com/index.php?lang=en- Baudelaire Opéra, rue Ste Anne, 2th arr . baudelaire.hotelsparisopera.com/en/Paris_hotel_Baudelaire.htmlHas anyone of you stayed in any of these hotels/B&B ? Or else do you have any comments about their precise location ?

Hi,
Haven't stayed in any of those but have stayed and love Relais du Louvre in the 1st. The manager Sophie is super.

OMG, now I have this mental image of our little drunken crowd processionning to my train while singing Danish/Aussie/American/French vino songs (chansons à boire) ! Actually, the reason why I would like the hotel to be convenient with the station is because I may want to use the station's luggage storage facilities on the Saturday and/or Sunday . But you're right, relais Montmartre and Bonne Nuit Paris seem much nicer than the Opéra hotel . Plus the Montmartre hotel is very close to the "Café qui Parle", a restaurant that Laidback raved about recently and which may be perfect for my Saturday dinner . Do you know whether there are any nice restos near the rue Charlot ?

Anne - I didn't mean the one in Rue Charlot. I have walked down that street once, from République and it was not very lively or anything, as far as I remember. A bit dull, in fact. But I'm not expert on the 3rd arr. so you'd better get some other advice too.
Rue Ste Anne is surrounded by SO many restos, I would love to try out, e.g.
Ratatouille 168, Rue Montmartre - 75002
Le Domaine de Lintillac 10 Rue St. Augustin - 75002
Auberge St. Roch 33 Rue Saint Roch - 75001 Le Versance 16, Rue Feydeau, 75002

Anne - I can't say anything about the actual locations, but all 3 hotels seem VERY nice. The fact that the Bonne Nuit only has 3 rooms makes it seem quite unique, and the other hotels really look very attractive. If I were you, I would base my decision on the neighborhood you prefer to be in.

Anne, about the luggage storage - I don't know if this is common in Paris, but most hotels I have used would keep the luggage for a few hours after checkout time, as a courtesy. Perhaps if you e-mail your hotel (once selected), they would do that also and allow you to spend the day as you wish, then return and pick up the luggage to depart to the train?

Anne - you are more than welcome to come and put your luggage in my apt. Then we can knock over une bouteille de champagne on my balcon, before we go to our get together lunch.

Yes Becky, most hotels will keep your luggage before check-in/after check-out, and thank you Gitte about the storage in your appt, but I thought that storing my bag at the station may be more convenient than doing the detour to the hotel on the Saturday before the vendange or on the Sunday after the lunch . But then after all I can also bring my bag to the restaurant, especially if we have a private dining room ... I think that I will stick to my first ranking : I will book the Relais Montmartre, and if that fails for any reason (not that they should be booked up already ), then I'll go for the Marais B&B : even if the area is a bit dull on evenings, I love to walk the quiet empy Marais streets on early Sunday mornings. And Gitte : if the two of us gulp down a bottle of champagne BEFORE even getting to the restaurant, I guess that I will have problems to reach the station after lunch indeed, and I am not sure whether you will be able to help me ;D ...

I finally booked the Marais B & B, since the Relais Montmartre only had superior rooms available and these exceeded the price limit that I had set to myself . I am pleased with that : Bonne Nuit Paris seems really nice with only 3 bedrooms, and the owner, who I have corresponded with, is extremely friendly . And when I asked about the deposit, he answered that "we like to trust our guests and don't ask for any deposit" . Since he must be fluent in English according to his bio on the website, I think that I will tell him about the forum : another Parisian addition, and a member of the society for the conservation of historical Paris too, that sounds interesting ! I had considered having a nice dinner at the close-by and highly recommended “Le Pamphlet”, but then it seems that some of us ladies may have other plans for the evening ;D ...

But Anne, why not "faire d'une pierre deux coups" and invite the gentleman from the other plans to dine with you at Le Pamphlet ! LOL
Thank you for thinking about potential new member.

Hi Anne - that sounds like a great choice, and I love the idea that you may recruit him to join the forum if you have the same impression of him in person. That could be a fun resource for all of us, and if you find you like it, his B&B also might be a good choice when sending a timid newcomer (such as parents, etc.) to Paris, as they would not be alone in an apartment but could have someone to watch over them (yet not just be in a hotel with a busy staff that does not have much time for personal attention and answering questions). I look forward to hearing your report!

:)Anne, this is definitely one for my file, it's almost worth booking an extra night in Paris so one can stay. Very reasonable price and breakfast too. I love the Wet room in the Jardins Marais room. Denise love from England
