Does anyone know if there is a place to store luggae at Gare Du Nord? We will be in a Paris for about 4-5 days and then are taking the train to Brugge for 2 and then back to Paris for 4 more nights. As we are staying in different apartments in Paris on each "leg" storage at the apartment is not possible. It would not be a huge hardship to take our luggage to Brugge (we are both travelling with a 22" wheeled bag + carry on) but it would be nice to only take a small duffell/overnight bag to Brugge. If the station does have luggae storage, could someone tell me is it safe? Sorry to come off as naive or paranoid, but I have never used a storage locker in a public place and would appreciate any and all comments! Thanks so much.

Not much help here....they did in 1993...but that was a different place in time...now with all the "unattended bag' warnings I don't know. I had been in Paris, spent a few days in the Champagne region, trained back to Paris and had a late flight back to US. In order to spend the day and have a nice last lunch in Paris I was able to put my bags in a locker at the Gare!

It seems that even places that have lockers sometimes have them available, and sometimes not. Maybe you can make the decision on the spot - get there 45 minutes early, see whether currently there is storage (if so, leave them) and if not, just take them with you?

Thanks for the comments. Perhaps a local will see the post and respond with recent information. I did find somthing in the latest Time Out Paris that said they had 3 sizes of lockers on Level 1 under the main concourse, but I wanted to be sure it was accurate.

According to the station website, there is both automatic and manual storage, and it is located on level -1, near the car renting companies, on the taxis exit side . Manual storage is only opened from 6.15am till 11.15pm . Now, I am not sure about what they mean with "manual" storage, but I guess that it is like the storage that we used in Gare de l'Est last autumn : a guy puts your luggage through a security device like the ones in airport, then takes your luggage in a back room and issues a receipt . You just have to show him your receipt afterwards and pay for the duration of your luggage deposit to get your luggage back . It is totally safe (unless they make a mix up with other people's luggage, I guess : , but you have to make sure that your timetable is OK with their opening hours .

Oh, I forgot : luggage storage is called "consigne" in French, so you'll have to look for the signs for "consignes automatiques" or "consignes manuelles" .

They do, and I used it in the summer 2006. As said before, it's on Level -1, but it's self-serving.
From what I can recall, you put your bag through an airport style scanner, then pass through a turnstile yourself, collecting your bag on the other side. You then have to find a locker, there are many sizes but the problem I found was there wasn't very many of a large size! I had a big suitcase however and somehow managed to get it in.
How to pay is blurry in my mind, but I seem to recall some form of machine like you would pay into at a parking lot, and you pay when you leave.
Hope this helps, even if my memory (it was only 18 months ago, dear oh dear) is a little hazy.

Actually, perhaps you paid someone in a booth on the way out. Either way, it's perfectly safe, it's like visiting a prison when you go in.

Many thanks Grant & Anne!
It will be so much easier for us to store the rolling luggage and simply take a small overnight bag to Brugges. Also, thank you for explaining how the system works exactly!

I am glad you have bumped up this thread :)as I needed to know about Gare Montparnasse, we do not leave for the airport till 7.30 pm so need somewhere to store our luggage also. The kind apartment owners have said that if they do not have guests arriving that day then we can leave our luggage in the apartments as of now no one is in on the day so fingers crossed ;D Alison

I wonder perhaps Gitte that the lockers have been removed? Upon saying that, I wouldn't have thought it would be likely, given the station's use as the Eurostar hub. I've definitely used them before, so they've existed at one point .
