Hello Everyone,
My partner has surprised me with a trip to Paris for my birthday and has found a wonderful deal that he has book through Air Transit that included Upgrade flight there and back along with shuttle to and fro from airport in Paris and room and breakfast at The Victor Hugo Best Western.
I was quite relieved when I found out they are not the cookie cutter chain hotels that can be found here in Canada.
I was just wondering if any one had pics or comments about the hotel. We are always curious to find out more.
Any good eating suggestions for the day we arrive?
Thanks for any help you may have to offer ;D

Paul, I haven't seen that hotel mentioned on this forum, but it gets good reviews on Trip Advisor (I'm sure you've checked there! They have a few pics posted from guests, too).
As far as eating suggestions--wow, that's wide open! We have lots of foodies here, and tons of good restaurant recommendations. Check in the "Restaurants & Food" topic (you might want to post a question over there, too) and fill us in a little more on what you'd like to eat and maybe the atmosphere you'd prefer (and a price range?!).

KP, That sounds like an amazing deal - especially including the upgrades! The Best Westerns in Paris are individually owned - they seem to use Best Western for reservation purposes and to help with advertising. What a great way to ceebrate your 40th!! Re: restaurants: there are so many in Paris. It would help if yu cold narrow it down by letting us know whether you prefer fish, beef nouvelle cuisine etc. You will have a great time in the favorite city of all on this forum !

I am not sure where your hotel is nor how tired you are. But if you want a restaurant that to me is very much Paris, I would suggest Josephine, Chez Dumonet in the 6th. Food is excellent and it is like being in a 1940s Bogart film.
I am generally not overly hungry after a long flight and might personally save Chez Dumonet for a later meal. If that is the case for you, I do have three other suggestions. Cafe Marly in the courtyard of the Louvre is OK food, great drinks, fabulous to watch the dusk turn to dark within the Louvre, playing off the buildings. Also fun to people watch. Not inexpensive but fine for light meals.
Also could try Le Fumoir or Le Chien Fume. Latter has more charm inside with shabby interesting decor than outside. Both have good food.
Hard to know what to suggest till I have a price range nd food preferences and also whether you want to eat near your hotel and then crash.
Others such as GraceJoan, Gitte, Phread, Truffaut, Laidback and Luckyluc may have additional suggestions.
But have a great birthday. You will enjoy wherever you go.

A restaurant that screams Paris, huh? Maybe Au Pied de Cochon would be a good choice? It's certainly not the best food in Paris, but it is redolent of Paris history and unique to the city. It's also open all night, so you could go pretty much any time you like.

We stayed at a BW in February and were pleasantly surprised. I would consider them again in the future. The Victor Hugo looks nice enough; no chintz is always a plus!

I stayed at a BW - the Hotel Left Bank on rue de l'Ancienne Comedie in Nov. of 2006 with my daughter. It is nice and clean and the location was perfect for us.
Victor Hugo is a nice location and you'll find good places there including the main boutique of Le Notre. Your birthday, being in August, check out the places you want to go to as there will be restaurants and chocolate shops that might be closed. I know for sure that Berthillon (the sorbet and glace place) in Ile St. Louis will be closed.
Enjoy your planning - I find one of the most delightful part of the trip!
