Hello- My partner & I will be in Paris for 2 weeks in mid May. We are dividing our time between two apartments (one on Rue de Grennelle in the 6th the other on Rue de Francs Bourgeois in the Marais) (long story!) with a small getaway to Brugge in the middle for 2 nights at this amazing new "discovery owned by two Parisians ( www.triptiek.be/) We normally do not move around so much, but that is how this trip has turned out! The first night of our arrival we need to book a hotel as the apartment rental will not be ready until the next day. I wish to stay at a small chic hotel and have narrowed it down to these two: Hotel Keppler http: //www.hotelkeppler.com/OR Hotel des Academies des Arts : www.hotel-des-academies.com/We have been to Paris quite often, so are fairly familiar with most of the neighborhoods and have interests for the first day near each (Fondation Cartier near Academies des Arts and the Palais de Tokyo near the Keppler) I am able to secure rates for mid-level category rooms at both for roughly the same price (Keppler is about $50 more, but still within my range) Any suggestions from this savvy group of travelers??? Thanks. Paul p.s. Based on a suggestion from LuckyLuc we are booking a special lunch at Les Ombres! Thanks.

Paul, both these hotels look amazing! I suppose for me, the Academies des Arts would probably win out because it's closer to the metro, but I like both locations.

Sorry, I don't personally know either hotel but that sounds like a really great trip (and two days is, I think, just about right for Bruges). Do let us know in detail which hotel you choose, why, and how you liked it!

I stayed at the Keppler before the recent upscale renovation! It was then known as a "steal" for the neighborhood. It was fine then so it should be even better now! The area is quiet at night, pretty residential, should be fine for the one night.

Paul, I was browsing the "France Today" website this evening and came across an article in this months issue that describes the Hôtel des Académies et des Arts. You might be interested in reading it while you're deciding which hotel to book-- www.francetoday.com/features/hot_hotels.php

AnnetteCinCa, Many thanks for pointing me to that article in France Today. It was very interesting. Ironically, I had been thinking of booking the Hotel Particulier in Montmartre, but at 390 euros for the beginning category of room + the current $ situation - I practically passed out when I saw what the one night splurge would come to What was so helpful though, is that the article introduced me to another hotel, the Hôtel St-Vincent. It looks just wonderful, has been newly refurbished, is in the same price range as the other two contenders and is about 2 blocks (!!) from the small apartment we will be checking into the next morning on the Rue de Grenelle. So, after months of looking forward to the Keppler and then adding the Academies des Arts to the mix, I am now bolting at the last minute to a new choice! I guess I am more fickle than I thought. LOL Thanks again for helping me make a choice. Paul

The St-Vincent looks gorgeous! I'm glad you've been able to chose a place--it can someetimes be such a mind boggling task!
