I thought I'd bump this fabulous thread - now that a new vacation year has started. On my list for the 2009 trips are: ROUEN and COMPIÈGNE.
Thanks again to you, MaisonMetz - and another exalt !!

I love that Gitte will be back in Paris about 2 weeks before us because of all the great info I will get for our trip! (although I really wish our dates would have overlapped by a few days so I could have met you, Gitte! You are a fascinating, no-nonsense woman who knows what she likes and goes out and gets it ~ and then shares it all with us lucky readers! I love your sense of humour and really hope to meet you one day. I think I would fit it well with the Wild Women Getogethers so many of you have been lucky to share!)
Can't wait for those reports to start!

I just bought this book, which contains 20 destinations located in Île de France, just 1 hour's trainride from Paris (meaning: you are not dependant on renting a car). I haven't started reading the book yet, but leafing through it showed maps of villages, as well as history of the locations/châteaux - plus suggestions for walks. Click on pictures to enlarge text.

Very cool book, Gitte!
Am looking for a copy now -- this could be a great way to plan little Sunday-afternoon jaunts, now that the weather seems to have sorted itself.
(My garden has exploded - daffodils, violets, primeveres, daisies -- all just appeared on the scene, and I have lilacs and tulips threatening to put out flowers in the next few weeks. It's great fun this year, as I have NO idea what's in any of the beds, so every day has a new surprise of something poking its green nose above the ground.)

Thanks for mentioning this book, Gitte. I believe we had an older thread that included a discussion of this book but I couldn't find it using the search feature.
I have the original edition and I think it's a great book!
