Thanks for this info Gitte - will definitely add to my to do list - which is getting so long that I may have to extend my stay in April - which is wishful thinking - I can't but I wish I could. Will save this for another time.

Gitte, I am as always so impressed with your details research and knowledge! I had the pleasure of doing the visit with Vincent Delaveau, one of my favorite conférencier (and no it is not because he is so easy on the eyes..) he really bring to life the hotel particulier and Theophile Gautier who had an apartement there.
The decor of the hotel is unique, I don't think there is anything else like it that survived in Paris, the painted panels are stunning.

So I managed to find a guided tour in April ! Am going Monday 21st at 15:30 with guide Patricia Rosen, a professor of art history: aquarelleparis.blogspot.com/2007/10/programme-mensuel.htmlNote that she also does tours of Hôtel de Ville. I would love to go there and see the glorious salons !

Gitte - If I'm not mistaken, my favorite ice-cream place (need I mention which? ;D) is closed on Mondays, so you may have to return to the island on another occasion if you plan to pay them a visit.

Gitte,
Do you have to have a reservation to go on this tour? I would really like to go but I'm not sure if I have time. If I didn't have to buy a ticket in advance I could see how my day goes on Monday and if possible just show up for the guided tour and buy a ticket at that time.

sandra, no - you don't make reservations in advance. I e-mailed Patricia Rosen and asked, and she said that I should just show up either for the 15:30 tour or the 19:30 tour (nocturne aux flambeaux ~ ~ "evening by torch light"-something......)
OBS! She wrote to me that the guests are asked to turn up about 5 mins before "showtime". The meeting point is in front of the entrance door of 17 Quai D'Anjou. The tickets are 10 euros per person.
Also she wrote that you might call her the day before to register your participation. I will do that to make sure that the tour will be carried through.

Gitte, this does look like a place worth of making the to-do lists of many of us. I just skimmed thru the articles you posted, and was interested to discover it's history, and the fact that it's so ornate inside but photographs are prohibited (probably explains why we haven't seen much of it before). It's currently used primarily as the location for elegant receptions given by the City Council and Mayor of Paris to honor important guests, so being able to participate in one of the few tours would be a treat.

Gitte, thanks for the great links. They helped refresh a few details of a guided tour of the Hôtel de Lauzun we were able to take last October. It's magnificent, and the history is fascinating.
Lucky you to have found an art history professor as a tour guide.
