Pleased to meet you ! And thank you LuckyLuc for the invitation to join this forum ! My name is David, Iam 27 years-old and I work as a Tour-guide in France. Iam a kind of surprised that nobody talks about some of the major touristic spots in France, which is the Mont-Saint-Michel. It is the second most visited site in France just behind Tour Eiffel, it's quite touristic, but quite magic on the sunset. You can check my blog, I often post pictures of my tours, you're welcome in kantanfrance.vox.com/I was working for a big bustour company but I now Iam independant, it allows me to be more attentive to my guests, and cheaper ! I created KANTANFRANCE, you can check it out if you want more informations about me and my services here : kantanfrance.wordpress.com/If Iam not allowed to put links on a post, please delete it There is a flickR account link in my blog with many picture of regions of France, I update it as soon as possible... Hope to see you in my blogs too...And thanks again for welcoming me ;D

Hi David, and welcome to the forum! Yes, you certainly can put links in a post (and I'm impressed that you knew how to do that!)
Thanks for posting on this subject - I've never been there, and had no idea it was such a popular destination.

David - I'd like to give you a warm welcome too! It's always nice to wake up and discover a new forum member or too. As for Mont-Saint-Michel, we definitely plan on seeing it one day. When we were in Paris in 2006, we also spent a few days in the Loire Valley, and we've thought about combining our next trip to Paris with several days in Normandy, where we will see the famous MSM. I'm not sure when that will be, but such a worthwhile sight is something we really look forward to.

Welcome David. I went to your blog and was pleased to see Mont-Saint-Michel4. A B&W infrared image of that location will be included in my upcoming book.

I visited MSM on my second(first really good) trip to Paris. Thoroughly enjoyed the day! ANd got a lot of exercise...very good after a long ride. The restaurant there La Mere Poulard(did not eat there) gave NYC a try several years ago but unfortunately did not last long. I recall enjoying the food but little else..bad space and design and service. I do like their cookies..usually on AF meal trays!
Welcome David!

Welcome to the OPF, David! Thanks for the links. Years ago, literally before you were born, my Texan French teacher used to tell us stories of his visits to Mont Saint Michel. He used to spend retreats there every couple of years or so and showed us pictures and talked about his experiences there. That was my introduction to MSM.
When we lived in Paris in the early 80s, we had a driving trip to Brittany and it was magnificent. Didn't get to run as fast as can be from the parking lot because of the tide rising but the whole experience was exhilarating. My second trip was when my son attended a 3-week classe verte in the Ile de Noirmoutier - we get to visit him on weekends and we ventured on another hike up the monastery of MSM.
Thank you for posting about it - otherwise, I would not have had this nostalgic memory. Bienvenue encore!
-Lilia

I visited the Mont. It looks incredible on the approach but way too crowded for me to enjoy. Best to stay over or visit late when most of the day trippers have left.

One of the things I found helpful at Mont St. Michel to lessen the impact of the crowds was to climb directly to the top first. Then go down at a leisurely pace, not needing to be stopped by the ascending hordes of tours.

I have visited Mt St Michel but like the Millau bridge that we travelled on it twice, it's much more beutiful, magical on the approach, IMHO!

I agree Randy..on the tour I took the guide took us up the "back way" first and we had her services/commentary in the church. Then it was free time for the trip down and lunch. Unlike some tours, it was enough time and a very pleasant day! We stopped at a nice place for dinner too...nice in that it was a "regular" place...but because we were there earlier then the usual dinner hour we pretty much had it to ourselves with one of the set menus....not no choice in a "private room" or tourist hall!
