We returned from Paris a few months ago and I can't wait to get back. However on our next trip I would also like to see parts of southern France and was wondering if people had any special/favourite places they would recommend for a first visit outside Paris.

I would suggest either Dordogne (South-West) or Provence (South-East) . You'll find several threads about both areas in this section . However, it also depends at what time of the year you plan your visit : if you plan to come in late autumn, winter or early spring, there are good chances that weather will be MUCH better in Provence than in Dordogne .

Thank you! I'll look up those threads and start making notes!

I heartily second the vote for the Dordogne! That's my favorite part of France (other than Paris, of course), and I never get tired of it.

We're in the midst of planning our fall trip to the Dordogne so I'll be glad to share info. with you if you decide that's the place for you.

And I'm going to the South of France in a few months (Nice to Barcelona and many places in between!), so I'll be sure to report in on my experiences there (it will be my first time).

I can't wait for your thoughts demarais and sistereurope. I have googled it and from what I have seen so far Dordogne looks amazing! I read about an Australian couple that has opened a french cooking school somewhere south (very accurate, I know) and I'm interested in attending a few sessions, I'll have to see where it is in relation to Dordogne.
