;D
Have yet to find a really good breakfast place in Sarlat and hotel charges 20Euros per person so that is out.
But into car and off to Lascaux II. Yes, it is a duplicate of some of what is in the original but it is extremely well done and the reconstruction is unbelievably accurate. The colors are vivid and you can really see what the actual artists must have seen. The modern artists even duplicated the three dimensions. It is not the same as walking where Cro-magnon walked but you can see how talented and smart they were. For people who have not really studied the pictures from the original cave that are in art books, this may be more exciting than looking at the faded images of the "real." Having been to Font de Gaume the previous day, I know that you could see the animals more clearly at Lascaux II.
Crappy lunch, late in Monignac. Surprisingly bad omelet!
Back in Sarlat--got dirty clothes together for laundromat. Took 45 minutes to figure out how to use machines, Husband stayed there , reading while i walked into old town. It was late Monday afternoon and many shops were closed but I did get some tins of goose foie gras. It has not been on any menus and at least I can have it at home. Then back to help with laundry.
In evening, walked up steep hills in old town to find Relais La Poste, a wonderful very small restaurant in a very old building. We got lost on the narrow winding streets and kept going around in circles. After quite a while, we made a turn and there it was. Cell phones really are handy as they had held our table. I think there were about 8 tables. Hard to tell as one had been pushed together for a large party.
Local white Muscadet. Medallions or lobes of foie gras in a pastry shell. Excellent but very filling. Since I had already ordered the main plate of scallops and giant shrimp, I actually left some of the latter and skipped dessert. Food portions were large for France and I had not expected that. Husband had a mussel salad and duck confit and a tartine of apple. 92 euros for both of us.
Long walk back but down hill and there was still a lot of activity even at 11ish, at the square, with street musicians, etc.. We stopped briefly and then went back to hotel.
