Trying to keep clothing for three and a half week trip to a reasonable amount. We will be in the Loire from 28th of August to 1st of September, Dordogne from Sept 1-5, Provence from Sept 5-9, Lyon from 9-11 and then in Paris from Sept 11-19. I pretty much know what to take for Lyon and paris but am wondering whether this clothing would be too citified for the other areas. Am also wondering whether it will be hotter in Dordogne and provence and if I should pack sandals and lighter colors. Any words of wisdom would be helpful. Thanks.

I think you just answered your questions yourself !! Whatever you do - don't forget The Golden Rule: "Always bring at least two pairs of comfortable walking shoes/sandals"

Unless you are very unlucky, you will definetly need sandals and Summer clothes for Provence, and probably Dordogne too .
Mind you, you may need such clothes for the rest of your trip too : we have had absolutely gorgeous Autumns for the last three years . But there is no way to forecast : Paris may be 25°+C, as well as it may be 15°C with heavy rains . Just remember that, even when the weather at mid-day is still Summer-like, mornings in September are likely to be cold and misty until mid-morning (that is, in the Northern part of France) . So don't forget the usual over-repeated recommandation : dress in layers .
You should just bring comfortable clothes for the Loire valley, Provence and Dordogne . But this also depends on what exactly you are going to do there .

;D
Thanks Gitte and Anne,
I am one of those who generally wears dark colors in cities--mostly pants and blouses with an occasional skirt and jackets. Pretty much what I wear at home for work at the University. For other places I would wear lighter colored pants in beiges, etc and Tee tops--kind of resort area clothes. Since we will really be doing sightseeing and the caves when not in Lyon or Paris, I gues I will take that kind of clothing--more casual. And, yes, comfortable shoes--always. If my feet hurt I am miserable and not nice to be near.
Will also take a sweater and a rain jacket and umbrella.

They are Rose Gold, large circles that cover earlobes entirely, very beautiful and husband purchased them from a certain antique dealer in Kensington , Maryland for our 50th anniversary last June. Gave them to me in Paris.

Holger, maybe it's time to give your husband a pair of earrings for his 75th!! We're always joking with dealers from whom we buy in Paris about how we get jewelry back to the US. We always tell them that we wear everything on the plane. I explain that if I'm ever questioned, I simply explain to the customs officer that I'm a drag queen and the jewels are from my personal collection! (Actually, I frequently try on antique earrings if I have concern about how they will hang from the earlobe, and this amuses French dealers endlessly!)

I love that image! Will be happy to wear your jewelery en route from Paris. My modeling fees are nominal. Truly doubt that I will do much shopping this trip given the exchange rate. But of course, never can tell what may turn up.
