If anyone is touring Touraine this summer or this fall, don't forget to make a stop at the château de Candé, ten minutes south of Tours. There is a special exhibition to mark the 70th anniversary of the Duke of Windsor and Mrs. Simpson's wedding at the château. Interesting rooms to visit and of course the dresses and some jewellery of the Duchess. From June 3rd to the end of September. Here is the website with some English www.chateau-cande.fr

You can't imagine how I wish I could see that. I'm intrigued with the story of Edward renouncing the throne for his true love. I'm sure the exhibition is spectacular.

Thanks Luc! Wow, I'd love to see that. Mrs. Simpson was a Baltimore girl, you know

Thanks Luc, I will certainly try to get there in September as I loved Wallis' clothes and jewels.

Oh that would be interesting. I too am intrigued by the "love story" of Edward and Wallis,, and would have loved to see her clothes and jewels.

Just goes to show that even a woman who looks like a horse can find her prince!

Truffaut - It sounds like you're talking about Camilla.

It is true that Mrs. Simpson was not "un canon de beauté" as we said. But her sense of style made up for it. It does give hope to the rest of us... When my mother pass away, she left me her diaries and I discovered that as a young girl she had a huge crush on Edward. Since then their love story is even more special for me.

To each his own. While not intrigued by two people who clearly deserved each other and lived an utterly narcisistic life, I have admired her clothes and jewels so we will try to see if we can get to see them in August- September. We will be in Amboise and could try to drive over.

Hi, Holger -- if you have not been to Amboise before, I would suggest that Clos de Luce be on your list of things to see. I had no idea until we were in Amboise for a bicycle tour a couple of years ago that Leonardo da Vinci spent the last few years of his life there, as a guest of the king of France (he's buried in the beautiful little chapel of the chateau).

Today I asked my hubby what he would do if he were in the position where he'd have to renounce the throne in order to marry me. He just looked at me and didn't answer, so I think he'd rather be king.

Oh, Shoesy! He was just playing with your mind! He would be crazy to let a sweetheart like you go (especially one with such great legs!)

Becky,
Thanks. It is already on our list. Just hope it isn't overrun with Da Vinci Code addicts.

Thanks, Annette. Of course I know my hubby loves me, but being a king could be rather challenging, right? LOL
