Aude, thanks so much for the chocolate tip! This sounds like just my kind of chocolate (if you're ever in San Francisco, there is a chocolatier here who does similar things, with ingredients that sound like they should be awful but work wonderfully plus the choclates themselves are beautiful).

Wow, checked out the Durand web site -- did you notice that they post recipes? And I see you can order, but can't tell if you can send to the US (wouldn't want to do that until winter in any case, I suspect, because it likely would not travel very well!)

The Joel Durand chocolate is heavenly!!! I purchased chocolate bars with lavender and chocolate bars with rosemary. I loved the rosemary! The lavender was very subtle. However, the dark chocolate is to die for. I also bought the mix to make hot chocolate. It was good, but the Maxim's cocao poudre is still the very best I've found!

Thanks Joy -- with two glowing recommendations, I must try it! (Have you tried to have it shipped and, if so, how did that go?)

Thanks all. Wonderful suggestions Finally have gotten laptop to pick up a signal here in nothern Vermont where afterv3 days of horrible heat and no A/c a storm seems to have cleared the heat. Am enjoying grandchildren, feeding stray cat and dreaming of France. Will be home in 10 days and start to finalize plans.

Nice to see you again, holger. Sorry to hear about the weather you've been having. Here in Israel the heat has been rather brutal for about 5 days, but at least we have a/c.

Hi Holger -- I remembered you were doing something rural with family, glad to hear you're enjoying yourself! Have fun with the grandchildren, and we'll all catch up when you get back.

Hi Holger! Sorry to hear about that Vermont heat...it's been in the upper 90's here with high humidity...wheee! I hope that it's pretty up there, at least.

Becky -- no, I have not tried to have anything shipped by Joel Durand. The only "French" thing that I could not do without was the hot chocolate mix from Maxim's. I found I could order that online from a US vendor.
