Megan,
Best of luck to you with trying to quit smoking - it's tough!! I have smoked for more years than I care to mention and have quit several times only to foolishly start again. I have tried pills, patches and just willpower but now am going to try something different - they have a laser clinic here in town that is used to help with smoking cessation and weight loss so I'm going to go give it a try to help me stop smoking - I'm nervous about it but very hopeful - I'm tired of sneaking around to smoke and I know how bad it is for my health. My date for treatment is this Friday Feb. 29th!

sandra, I congratulate you ,, effort is everything, I too tried patches and gum...
I am not proud of myself though( yet) , since I still feel only steps away from starting, I really do one day at a time. I just keep the loop going in my brain, all the benefits, all the negatives, etc etc. . And, as you noted the sneaking around does wear on one, gone are the days I could smoke in the hospital when I visited my friend in the maternity ward, or smoke on the plane, LOL. Can you believe what we were exposed to, no wonder some of us smoked,>LOL

How can you guys say that you want Mae West back.... after seeing this photo of the real authentic and most adorable Gitte?  For me, it has been wonderful to be able to now put a face to the wit and humour, the kindness ... the brilliance of OUR Gitte!! |

Maybe I could photoshop some Viking-like horns and long blonde tresses onto Gitte's pic. Then she'd look sort of like Birgit Niellson as Brunhilde (except the real Gitte is considerably more attractive than Birgit!)

One more thing Gitte..I saw a couple walking down the street yesterday and the woman looked just like your photo! I almost spoke but they were moving quickly in the opposite direction. Did you sneak a trip to NYC and not tell me!!! ;D And..by the way..March's France Today has an article on the Gobelins factory. |

Megan: Everyone who has smoked and quit realizes now what a filthy, stinky, habit it is.. No matter how you try to hide it, your hair smells, your clothes smell, your house smells, your car smells. It's never ending. And then the cost!! Put the money away that you spend on every pack and buy yourself something special in paris. You too Joan and SANDRA. ( Hope it works) Good luck to you all. My stepsister died of lung cancer too. She was 49. I think of her everyday.

Speaking of the expense! Just as you came out of the elevator at our London hotel, there was a cigarette machine. 16 fags were 6.20 pounds...$12.50 a pack of 16!! That ought to be enough to make anybody quit!

thanks to everyone for the stop smoking support - I have been delayed in getting back as I was in Napier ( central East Coast in the North Island of New Zealand ) with 25000 other people at a Tom Jones concert in NZ oldest vineyard the Mission Estate. It was great - I confess to having one cigarette but I was with hardened smokers. It was awful and I felt sick so threw it away and gave the packet to my Uncle! Its a tough road but I will get there. Saving the money and using it in Paris is the plan - but I did buy a very very very expensive pair of boots to take to Paris - they cost so much that I now cannot afford cigarettes or pretty much food for the next 10 months before I go away !

Gitte, your post certainly puts life into perspective. While not doing it willingly, I've been away from this forum for a while (no access at work and home internet not working for weeks) and it's been an eye-opener having to get out in the real world again. I am in awe of your widespread and in-depth knoweldge of Paris. It's truly an education reading your posts, and I hope you do visit the forum from time to time. Mez PS. I love your photo, however, I always imagined you as a brunette. |
