HAven't been to Blackpool so have missed your Eiffel Tower, but your picture of the seaside sunbathers brought a real smile to my face. Only in England will you see people in sand chairs , in sweaters and coats, bundled up, and staring at the North Sea like it was the middle of summer in FL!!!

That's true...or how about just sitting bundled up in their CARS staring at the sea ;D
(that's a nice find andi - I'd never heard of England's Eiffel Tower!)

We also have an Eiffel Tower in Ohio. Ours is at King's Island, a theme park near Cincinnati. It is 1/3 the size also. We drove past KI on our way to dinner back in November. It was our first time seeing the tower at King's Island since being back from Paris. I always thought that the tower at KI was big, but now that I have seen (and been up in) the real thing, this one looked awful "stubby." Although it won't be the same, I think I'll still enjoy our mini Eiffel Tower!

And not to be left out - Sydney has one too! ;D It's the AWA building and (no longer used) communications tower. At the time of the building's construction, in 1939, the tower was the tallest structure in Sydney and remained so until the early 1960s. It was modelled on both the Eiffel Tower and Berlin's Funkturm Tower, built in 1925. Better pictures (and in colour) can be found at uk.geocities.com/mds975/masts/awa_building_sydney.html. Mez

I have just come back from Blackpool and the ballroom inside the Tower is out of this world. Beautiful - we wiled away an afternoon watching the dancers and listening to the organ players . Fantastic
