Breaking news here in the UK, Heath Ledger of Brokeback Mountain fame has reportedly been found dead in a downtown Manhatten residence within the last hour. Shocking news. A great loss of a talented actor.

I saw an interview excerpt from one of his recent interviews, so sad, he seemed very intense almost too serious, I think people like that do tend to have a hard time with fame, and apparently he admitted to taking two Ambiens and only getting an hours sleep out of them. He says he thinks too much and can go a week with only an hour or two of sleep because of that,, . I can see a person like this getting desperate for sleep, for mental rest really, and after building up a tolerance for sleeping drugs, just going too far one time and taking too many.... and well the tragic results.
He was a good actor and very young , such a shame, and of course, a baby girl will never know her father.

Sad events such as this one make me wonder if any happy celebrities exist at all. We often hear stories of similar tragedies or about the messed-up lives and problems of famous people. I guess I should be content being a nobody.

<<He says he thinks too much and can go a week with only an hour or two of sleep because of that,>> That is called a manic state and it is a psychiatric disorder. It is very sad that he was not surround by the right people.

I wonder the same thing, Shoesy....if there are any happy celebrities. I'd rather be happy/content and be a nobody (at least on Hollywood's radar screen) than to have fame and money and be unhappy. It's very sad for his young daughter though.

I agree with phread - he obviously had some serious issues, and needed help. That's not to say that people weren't in fact trying to help, but such extreme sleep deprivation would do very unhealthy things to the mind (and is, in turn, a sign of very unhealthy things already happening). What a shame/waste.

I think its dangerous to speculate about what we see and hear in the press. It was a shock but I think it's sensible to wait for the autopsy results before making comment about the way he died. After all there was 24 hours of speculation about the rolled up bill, only to be reported the next day it was tested and didn't have any sort of powder on it.
You are right Becky - a waste.
