I saw a promo for "60 Minutes" this Sunday evening. Sarko is being interviewed by Leslie Stahl and at some point removes his microphone, gets up and with a dismissive wave, walks off! No idea when it was filmed. Got to see this!!
For those of you who are unfamiliar it is a Sunday nite news"magazine" program airing Sunday evenings here...known for sometimes "hardhitting' interviews, investigative reports et.

Shall we make a prediction as to what topic it is that causes him to leave?!

Yes, Geordy! Thanks for the heads up also! Sounds intriquing! Hmm...roundtowngirl...let me venture a guess...questions getting too up close and personal...likely as to his marital (or now lack thereof ) situation! Eh...? I bet he will say, "what business is this of yours? Your interest of me should be how I conduct the presidency not my personal life." or some such..but the more personal questions continue ..and viola! Microphone is removed and the wave off!

Sometimes I feel that we (the tabloid press and its greedy audience) put unreasonable stress on public persons, preying distastefully into their private lives. What business is it of ours if his bedroom has "revolving doors"?? I admire a politician who listens to his own "stomach feeling" and simply walks away when he feels that his personal limits have been abused. Way to go, Sarko !!

I agree - it's none of our d**n business what goes on in the personal life of public figures. However, I'd be a liar if I said I weren't interested in knowing.

As expected, the question was about Cecilia ...

Watched the interview. I felt that Sarko was polite to the interviewer and that he did not do anything wrong when he left on the Cecilia question. In this day when Brittany Spears is major news we sometimes forget that people do have personal lives and what they do in thier private lives is none of our business. (Although I can't dispute the fact that I watched the show to see what he would get upset about!)

Gitte, Demarais, Shoesy and RTG - I couldn't agree more with you about politicians right to a private life, except in the specific case of Sarko . As I explained in another thread (Sarko and Cecilia Fini ?), Sarko has complacently and abundantly displayed his - then successful -private life for several years in the media in the hope to gain popularity . He just asked for what is happening now . French media are not used to digging into politicians' private life Gitte, but then one cannot choose to use the media when he feels convenient and profitable, and then ask for "decency" and "respect of private life" when the news are unwelcome . I hope that what is happening now will sound very much like a warning to other French politicians who may be tempted to advertise their private life .

I totally agree with you Anne. I think that the emphasis on politician's private lives that we have here in the states is appalling - I get physically ill when I see the media dwelling on trivial matters while there are SO many important things happening in the world - AHH! So I agree that reporters should NOT delve into those matters...EXCEPT when a politician uses his family life to win votes. You're right - HE made it fair game. So IMHO he deserves to be called out for being a hypocrite...

s.e. well, just wondering, do any of the us daily media mouths ever report on anything beyond our borders? If I didn't have the internet for Int'l Hearld Trib, BCC, Sunday Times (UK) etc I would so be in the dark. I also watched just to see his reactions. I have to agree with phread and her gnat theory. It was displayed very well. Happy would you really be happy with the attention span of a gnat?

You're right GG, one has to watch the news from overseas to see what's really happening in the WORLD. Incredible!
I guess that we are asking dear happy to make quite the sacrifice - she'll be all over the news once she hooks up with Sarko, since he'll surely announce to the media that he's found true love...

You'll all be surprised to know that the question that drove my beloved Sarko off, was in fact, a question about our future together. That home in Paris is getting ever closer to being a reality... All kidding aside, I agree with all of you that the press should really concentrate on more serious, and certainly more pressing, subjects. It's interesting to me to note Anne's opinion that he sort of asked for this when he was running for office. If it's indeed true, I'm surprised. I, for one, am sick to death of all the celebrity stalking/papparazzi and the Sarko/Britney Spears dramas in our culture. It just seems to me that if people spent even half the amount of time they do following all these dramas on learning about the ideas their presidential candidates are espousing, so that they can make an intelligent choice in the next election, we'd all be a lot better off. Got off track there a little...sorry .

Did I or did I not miss the interview. Some people sound like its this Sun. and some make it sound like it was Sunday past. I'd still like to see it. Leslie Stahl isn't the hardest hitting interviewer so I can't imagine what went on between them that he would leave........... s
