Before I was active on this forum.., before this forum was...whenever I went on to the other place the Paris Forum was almost always one of the Hot Topic ones. You'd just click on a featured Paris thread. Now it hardly ever is......Hummm?

One thing I have noticed on the "other" forum (though I seldom read many threads there anymore, but I like to browse from time to time) is, that the threads now die out really fast, and the majority of threads die out after about 3-5 replies. Not so in the old days..... Well........ except for this highly entertaining thread, started by an Australian lady who really hated Paris and who does certainly nothing to hide it ! Why is it that it is always the negatively mooded people who trip over dog-sh*it ? I never notice them in Paris, let alone step into any. I guess it's a MUST-DO that I have to put on my 2008-list ! www.tripadvisor.com/ShowTopic-g187147-i14-k1530049-Paris_Is_it_really_that_great-Paris_Ile_de_France.html

ROFLMPPO!! But so true!1 I've managed to avoid it for years too
Maybe I've just trained my eyes to avoid seeing dirt..I hate housework.. but I do not find Paris the least bit dirty. Sure at the end of the day there might be a bit of trash around but by morning it's gone, thanks to the little green men. Maybe in some areas I've missed it's nasty .

Gitte, I think it's because they're walking around with their eyes scrunched up from frowning which causes them to (1) miss all the beauty, but (2) not miss the doggie-doo! ;D

The eastern, lower end of Montmartre (around eastern end of Blvd. de Rochechouart) can be very dirty with garbage in the pavement and on the street. Depressing to look at, but then the more praise we owe to the green men, they are Paris's real heros ! Far more than the fancy-schmancy chefs and haute couturiers.
Note: Montmartre "uphill" west of Rue de Clignancourt is never dirty - never.

Yes, GitteK! I noticed the same thing..how quickly each thread dies down on the other forum now...unlike the days of yore! (pre- mass exodus days). Back in the day, many more threads became lively on the other forum and therefore more interesting (until closed)....albeit some became too heated and/or negative (as with the only long current thread that you mentioned, Gitte!). That creates its own problems, of course. Info can be exchanged quickly and that is good and necessary too...yet, I always enjoyed the more lively (if not sliding into nastiness) threads.

I too remember the good old days when the threads were several pages long, and quite often turned into off-topic. Of course I always felt naughty whenever I made off-topic comments......sort of like a child who was misbehaving, but it just happened, and I certainly wasn't trying to break any rules. In any case, I love this forum because I feel so free to really get to know the posters. Recently my husband was abroad for 2 weeks and I was feeling quite lonely at home, but seeing my friends on board always helped put a smile on my face. As for the doggy poop, I never saw any in Paris. I think I would have noticed it if I had encountered it, but I didn't. Maybe I will next time, and if I do, I'm sure I won't mind too much because the dogs in Paris are absolutely darling.

Agreer about the poop...I recall a movie I think it was the Robert Altman Preta Porta(Sp.?) ( Ready to wear?) and everybody was constantly stepping/slipping in dog poop! at that point I think I had been there at least 10 times and it had never happened to me! Maybe because I'm from NYC and used to looking down not up???
