We just came home on the metro tonight and we saw a young man wearing black athletic shoes by Nike. The difference, however, is that the big toe was separated from the area for all the other toes--exactly like a mitten. They, of course, looked completely ridiculous and incredibly uncomfortable. I can only surmise that the correct name for such footwear must be a combination of "shoe" and "mitten"--perhaps "shittens"??

You have got to be kidding! Nope...you're not! I just googled it and found some pink ones, with an explaination of why they made them: www.sneakerhead.com/312460-611.htmlI can't imagine how uncomfortable those would be!!!

I don't see why they would be any more uncomfortable than flip-flops (thongs), which I simply cannot wear... much to my despair.

T, I wish I thought this was a joke and you were just having us on . . . . I can only hope that doesn't catch on in the US (or if it does, that it will be adopted only by the young men who wear their jeans with the back pockets on the backs of their knees and the crotch in about the same location -- now that, I can see as a compatible combination!)

Yes, I know I am not going to jump on the "fashion" bandwagon! Like you , Shoesy, I can't even wear flip flops well as that sensation of something between my toes is too irritating for me! I can't imagine a sneaker made like that! ha! Well, I would guess that "fashion" idea will fizzle out..but who knows! Stranger things have happened! (but what ? ) Oh, I just looked at Annette's referenced e-site on this and it states (at least as to that shoe shown on that page), " Please Note: This shoe is not for sale. This shoe is sold out and out of production. Sneakerhead.com provides this listing for research and entertainment purposes only." ha! Also, it states (for those who did not click on that site yet), "The Nike Air Rift premiered in 1995 and was a hit with both the behemian and the nightclub crowds. This unusual split toed shoe was designed for the Kenyan runners who were accustomed to running barefoot but were required to have footwear at many events." Huh...why would Kenyan runners like this...is it open then inbetween that split as opposed to material separating? hmm! Curious!

I must admit that some people have very weird taste in fashion. However, if it makes them happy to wear strange attire, they're free to do so, and "frankly, my dear, I don't give a d**n." ;D

Yuk, they are ugly........ even worse that Naot Columbia's....... I can wear my flip-flop tongs now with only 2 plasters on each foot......! How come we could run around in these things all summer when we were kids and never had one blister or sore at all
