Can't recall which thread(s) wandered off into the area of shoes, but wanted to report that yesterday I bought some Naot sandals at a store that specializes in all kinds of comfortable shoes. I couldn't believe how comfortable and light they were (but I don't remember the model name, because I had them sent to my office so I wouldn't have to cram anything else into my rollaboard although by the end of last night/morning, I was wishing I not only had kept them but had worn them!). Thanks so much all, for the tip on that brand!

Oh Becky, the only Naot sandals that I ever saw were the ones that Gitte posted the picture of in the "I'm back" thread ! Please, tell me that yours don't look like that ...

No, not even close -- very cute, and so comfortable! (Among other things, they are really just feather light) I will take a picture when they show up at home, and add to the post (plus, the box I'm sure will have the style name). My husband tried to talk me into the "humvee" type sandals (still love that description, don't recall who said it first on here!) for hiking when we go out onto trails, but even for that I just couldn't stand the thought.

I also bought a pair of Naots, but they are shoes (style Salvador), not sandals since I am going to Paris in October. I, too, found these to be very comfortable when I put them on. However, I only wore them for a few minutes around the house. They do seem like they will need some "breaking in", and the Merrell shoes I bought last year (style Plaza Bandeau) were comfortable right from the first step. I promised I would give a comparison between the two, but I also forgot what thread that was on!!! Hope this helps!

I have enough comfortable shoes to choke a horse. I'm very sorry to admit then, when it comes to pretty ones, I have enough to choke a cow. In Paris, I have yet to find a cute, sexy, fun, little shoe that when I put them on I get the "oh my god, where did you get those shoes"? I don't need a Laboutton, Chanel, Gucci, etc. I just want fun shoe. I have an arche shoe, very comfy, not cute. I don't know when I'm shopping if my mind wanders or I'm just looking at something else. Sorry to be so VAIN but can any one help? CUTE, NOT PRACTICAL!

Do you guys know about the GEOX shoes ? They have become very popular here : very comfortable with a special "breathing" sole, and the classical mocassins are very smart too (sorry Susan, not sexy ... ) Susan, why wouldn't you buy some "ballerines" (my dictionnary says "pump shoes" ?) . These are very fashionable and they make one's legs look nice and long ....

When I was in Italy last year, I discovered Geox shoes. They looked soooooo comfortable, but when I tried on a pair, they felt awful! The soles were hard , and I was very disappointed.

I bought a pair of Josef Siebel sandels with rhinestone buckles to wear in Paris, but alas it rained everyday we were in France. I wore them once. I had been wearing a pair of Dansco sandals for years, but I wore the footbeds out! I tried the Naots, but I have a really narrow foot. I'm addicted to shoes! Bought new pair of wedge heels yesterday. Justified them since they are naturalizers and "should be comfortable" (yeah and the 3 inch heels on them!)

Shoesy, I can tell you that the Geox ARE comfortable : I owe one pair of mocassin and they just feel like slippers, the leather is so soft ...

Okay, here's my update (the shoes were sent to my office and just arrived). As it turns out (LOL - I couldn't quite remember after the dozen or so I tried on!), I got: Naot Ashley (copper leather), Naot Jessica (black nubuck), and Merrell Gardena thong (sort of blue-black nubuck). They all felt great on, and I will enjoy wearing! And it's all thanks to the women of this forum, because I never heard of either brand before, much less would I have guessed how great they would feel (and I knew in advance they were good for walking, which is always the big question mark if you just buy something for how it looks/feels in the store). Can't wait to wear them on vacation (as well as at home, of course). Thanks all! ;D

Now for the benefit of the guys: Joe has two pairs of pikolinos brand shoes (bought one a few months ago, and another on this trip). They look great on (beautiful stitching detail), and he says they feel like wearing slippers. People stop him in airports, etc., and ask what they are and where he got them. Check out the brand at www.pikolinos.com.

I like Naots and have three pair. Two of which I took last year to Paris. they are comfortable but don't give me the same support as Mephistos for really serious walking. Just bought two more pair of Mephisto sandals and even tho we will be there late August to mid September may take them along with closed shoes in case it is hot. At least, I will wear them in Provence.

Becky, How did you ever manage to find the Pikolino shoe sight? Well, I went through it tonight and there are some beautiful shoes and sandels in their web pages. I think that I'll have Dennis look at them tomorrow. He has a very wide foot and I think that there are some that just might fit. The stitcing is beautiful and they look so soft. Thanks for the head up! S

Susan, no magic to finding the pikolinos web site, and I can't really claim much credit for it -- it was on the shoe box!

I am so upset! For years, I have worn the Rush model of Mephistos. These are the only true walking shoe that came in narrow. Today I learned that these have been discontinued. NO MORE NARROWS. I was so sitraught that I went on line and bought almost the last two pairs in my size from Zappos. Even on sale they are terribly expensive but they are really the only shoes that take my orthotics in which I can walk miles and not look too klutsy. Also got two mailing bags so I can ship and pay to have my old ones refurbished but that is half the cost of new ones. I certainly am glad I kept them in the back of my closet. I hate when things I like get discontinued.

Holger, I certainly agree with your approach -- I can't tell you the number of times I've found shoes that I love that fit perfectly, and went back and got either a different color or a second pair in the same color just because I know they will not be there when the first wear out! Go for it -- if your feet hurt, you can't enjoy much of anything!

Holger, I checked for you on Shoes.com (one of my fave websites for shoes) and they don't have any narrows left. I feel for you....it's so disappointing when something you really like gets discontinued. And it seems to happen more and more often lately!!

Here's another possible source - it may sound weird, but check the shoe section on Amazon! I've actually gotten several pairs of shoes there that I really like, and they are often very inexpensive as well. I just checked, and one of the five sources is still showing at least some sizes in "N."

I too have narrow feet , and it is difficult to find shoes that fit well. Many of the standby brands that many people swear by are just to wide and heavy for my feet( danskos, eccos etc) I just got some Naots a couple of weeks ago and they are heaven. I had no idea which " make" they were, and I had thrown out the box.. so I looked them up online a few minutes ago.. and would you believe,, they are called: PARIS!!! Seriously that is the name of them and they are definately coming to Paris with me! I do have to go and buy some closed toe shoes in case of rainy weather.. I will most likely get some more Naots, they are a bit pricey here, but comfort is priceless.
