I always wanted to ask what "SO" means ? Since you use it a lot on this forum I got the general meaning, but what do the "S" and the "O" stand for ?

In DK we call our spouse "my better half"

Better half is used here too Gitte.
Part of the reason for S/O is that after a "certain" age Boyfriend/girlfriend sounds a little strange to some.
Though a co-worker recently asked me when I was going to see my "fella" abbreviated "fellow"...a retro name I sort of like!

I've never understood the expression "better half". What makes that person better?

Great Site!! but don't you wish sometimes you could Exalt and Smite sites/webmasters? I would give this site (abbreviations) both. Many many, Exalts for the completeness of list, Smite for all the advertisements above the abbreviations list. If you have to do that to have sponsors, then put along the side like Google does.

LOL I can't believe this one is not there. it is there with other definitions and what's but the one we use (may) several times a day isn't www (part of web address) World Wide Web.

I'd have a problem with the "half" part, a couple is two wholes, no?
