Today I woke up to breaking news that a car had been found in the early hours containing huge amounts of petrol, gas canisters and nails in the Haymarket area of central London. Later today a second car had been discovered with further bombing materials inside at Park Lane...Experts think that had they exploded hundreds would have been injured or killed. Police are still not sure wether the threats are now over or if further bombs will be found. As yet no-one has taken responsibility for the bombs found. news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/6255960.stmnews.aol.co.uk/london-car-bombs-foiled-by-chance/article/20070629093409990002

I heard about the car bomb in the news here, but never heard about a second car. I hope this doesn´t start a paranoia again.

Apparently we have been on a very high alert for a long time........I do feel sorry for the tourists coming to the city, it must be really scarey for them at this time, as with people who live and work there.

apparently Londonians have been very lucky on this one, without the paramedics showing up to get a drunk out of a nearby club who noticed the smoking car it would have been a massacre, it must have been at 1 am but still the area around picaddilly is very animated... For what it seems it is exactly the same kind of car bomb used in Irak these days, the little difference and that might have been what made the difference after all, was that it was not a suicide car, which is in my opinion only of little consolation, the day these guys will have no regret to blow up themselves it will be a lot more difficult to prevent these kind of attempts... Funny world we live in...

At 3.15pm today a burning jeep tried to drive through the entrance doors of departures at Glasgow airport, apparently he then reversed and tried again, an eyewitness saw the passenger with a petrol bomb in his hand. Both men were on fire and passengers tackled them to the ground where police arrested them. The jeep was also on fire and extensive damage has been done to the building. It is believed that there are no serious injuries from this latest attack. Police are as yet refusing to confirm if this latest incident is connected to yesterdays attacks in London. All flights in and out of Glasgow are suspended until further notice. My own personal theory is that it is related. Gordon Brown became Prime Minister in the week and then the London attacks happened, Gordon stands firm on his belief that it was right to go to war with Iraq. Gordon is a Scottish man, hence the latest attack in Glasgow, a major scottish airport. I will continue to keep you updated as and when I hear more. news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/scotland/6257194.stm

Hi, Andi -- we've all been keeping up with these stories via the internet (plus they make big headlines even in California), and are glad you're nowhere near those areas!

Hi Becky, I am bang in the middle of the UK from every direction so luckily nowhere near anything that has happened so far.......Of course it is scary news and everyone will be watching with interest to see what occurs now, it is important for everyone to stay vigilant but not to get hysterical, strangely enough it is amazing how quickly you become hardened to it. We use the term "keeping a British stiff upper lip".

Just a short update...........The UK is now on "Critical Alert" and the security services believe further attacks are imminent. This is not to say that another attack will happen, just that it is very likely. All airports have banned cars from entrances to terminals, Liverpool's John Lennon airport has closed until further notice. The police have confirmed that this latest incident is linked to yesterdays London incidents. One man is being detained, the other is critically ill in hospital with severe burns. On arrival to hospital he was found to have a device attached to him so the A&E department was evacuated and the device made safe. Passengers on-board airplanes at the time of the incident are still stranded on the tarmac until areas are made safe. Security services say that Glasgow airport will remain closed for many hours yet.

OOOh spooky, there have been arrests in my home town related to the terrorist threats (approx 2 miles away) Two other suspects were also arrested on the M6 motorway in Cheshire which is also not very far away (approx 20 miles) Five people in total have now been arrested.........on the up-side, there have been no incidents today so hopefully the authorities have it under some control.
