I have seen "la Môme" in Paris last February. In French we said "Mi-figue, mi-raisin" meaning that there are good parts but also bad parts.
The good side: the actress is incredible, her acting is just perfect, enough not to much, the reconstitution of the period is also well done.
The bad part is that the montage is so full of cut and backflash that almost no scene reach their climax. So it is like a soufflé that you take to early out of the oven! It does not hold.
As long as you know that caveat I would say go see it.

Thanks luc...I think we're going to see Paris Je t'aime tonight...but maybe I'll wait to see La Vie in Rose until it comes out on Netflix (a home DVD rental company)

I saw "La Mome" and liked it a lot . I really knew almost nothing about Edtih Piaf's before seeing the movie, and I was surprised to learn that she had led such a turbulent life.

I did not love Paris Je T'aime. Some of the stories were sweet, but overall I would not recommend. But go see it anyway, as I know my opinion of it, was not popular. As for the "backdrop" ... yes, of course I loved that! I also saw Avenue Montaigne and I enjoyed that. Just a sweet little story.

I didn't "love" all of the stories trechic...but the ones that "worked" just blew me away... and yes, the scenery was more than Worth the price of admission - I LOVED how they panned over the city...it really gave me a perspective on just how big the city is.

Can't wait... except here in the UK La Vie en Rose only opened in London last week and Paris Je T'aime doesn't have its premiere until 29th June!

I saw La Vie en Rose this weekend. The actress that played Edith Piaf was excellent. The movie was good, but it was very depressing. Edith didn't have an easy life. I felt very drained after I left and couldn't stop thinking about her for the next two days. If you are an Edith Piaf fan I would highly recommend it.

I read that Paris Je T'aime is R rated? Is it really? What I have read about it, it does not seem as such...and I and my 14 year old daughter will be at a city where it is playing in a couple days...so please advise. Would it be inappropriate for her? I usually don't take her to R rated movies, but from what I can tell..this is just a series of sweet (not racey) stories with a fabulous background? Someday I will take her to Paris (maybe next year) and then she can see those fabulous backgrounds for herself!

Cybee -- if she's old enough for Paris billboards and mainstream magazines, she's probably old enough for an "R" movie!

I wouldn't say the stories were sweet. Some were very sad. Some included deaths. There is profanity, but no heavy sex scenes. One includes the death of a child that might be disturbing to children.
I really enjoyed the movie, it isn't the Paris that tourists experience, except for the last one. If you love Paris, you will love the movie.

Yes, I agree Paris 54...not all are sweet, but cybee there's nothing there (that I remember) that I would consider inappropriate for, say, my 14 1/2 year old daughter.

I am pretty strict about what my kids see, and honestly, I don't recall anything a 14 yr old shouldn't see or couldn't handle. There is one skit that involves a vampire( sorry spoiler) but it is so dumb ,, I don't think it would scar the average kid.

I didn't like the story about the vampires either....thought it was really poor...but as all have said before me, nothing there that a 14 yr old couldn't handle.

Thank you all so for your insight/ advice! I am back now and sadly I did not get to see the movie as hoped (sadness!) and now I wish all the more so to see "Paris , Je T'aime"...but when?! Now it has vanished from that theater and I don't know when it will reappear in some locale that I can see it at! OH, dear..guess I will have to wait for the DVD..but I had really looked forward to seeing it on the big screen! May see "La Vie En Rose" yet, if my plans work out! I had to suffice my Paris movie fetish this weekend with Ratouille which I surprisingly enjoyed!
