I'm wondering if everyone on this forum would put Casablanca high on their list of favorite movies. It seems as though there is a strong undercurrent of quotes, puns etc from the movie pervasive in this forum. Not that I'm complaining...it's high on my list.
I especially love how Rick always refers to the police captain as "Louis" with the American pronounciation, almost as a way to confer a lack of deference. Ah, Bogie...now there's a leading man!

It's at the top of my all time list. My favorite scene is when Lazlo leads the band to drown out the Germans, and Bogart realizes this is not just some jerk who stole his girlfriend.

Happygoin - It's funny that you mentioned this movie because only recently Gitte reprimanded me for not having seen it, and she made me promise to do so. I really don't know why I've never seen it because I DO see lots of movies. I guess it's just one of those things.

My all-time favorite is Sidney Greenstreet - both in "Casablanca" and in "The Maltese Falcon". I love that fat man with his highly cultured, elegant manners and his witticisms - and his black, depraved, decadent mind. Love him. And of course Peter Lorre as the small-time crook.
And best of all - the monumental punchlines, like: "Louis, when it comes to women, you're a true democrat"

We'll aways have Paris. My favorite is Claude Rains. My favorite movie of all times.

At the hotel's bar, named Ricky's bar, in the Regency Hyatt in Casablanca the movie is running non-stop. Of course the bar is a mock-up, but the barman and the personel try to look "authentic" so we really enjoyed ourselves. A must-do for any Casablanca fan.

Shoesy, rent the DVD, cuddle up with Mr. Shoesy some rainy night and watch the movie. You won't be disappointed. The only disappointment I ever felt was that I wasn't born looking like Ingrid Bergman.

(But you're right, Ingrid was quite a dame...loved her in Notorious...again with Peter Lorre...another of my faves)

Things actually turn brown, but I'm sure there will be lots of green when I go the N.Y. next month.
Oh..........and I'll be seeing green when I think of Gitte in Paris next week. ;D

I love Casablanca and Bogart. Shoesy, hopefully you will also love the movie. I think I have seen it about a dozen times over the years along with the Maltese Falcon--another favorite.

Shoesy, I'M shocked, shocked! that you have not seen Casablanca!! I can practically recite it! My S/O's name is Rick, and we always joke about we will always have Paris!! Were on a cruise(Bermuda) which I was not thrilled with(the cruise notion..not Bermuda which was lovely) and on our last nite at sea we were going to the "star gazing" on the deck after dinner but it was an overcast nite..no stars! So instead we ordered wine and watched Casablanca in bed!!
