I am currently reading guidebooks about Tuscany, where we are going to spend our vacations in August .
As I wrote on another section of the forum yesterday, those who haven't yet should really read "A year in Provence" by Peter Mayle . The story of an English guy who settles down in the South of France and discovers how life is there . Very funny and very easy reading . The tittle of the book "A year in the merde" is a direct reference to Peter Mayle's book .

Anne, Where in Tuscany are you staying/going? Is this your first trip there? I was there in 2004 and simply fell in love with it. We stayed in San Gimignano, which captured my heart and still hasn't let it go. I'm jealous! But at least I have Paris to look forward to! By the way, I am not posting what I'm currently reading, because after seeing what all of you are reading....I am embarrassed!!!

I started Marie Antoinette by Michel Decker just yesterday so I can understand whole Versailles thing better. It´s real fun!

dep0515 - Mind you, we will be staying at a place called Castellare di Tonda, in a village called Montaione, very close to ... San Giminiano ! My husband and I already visited Tuscany and Umbria in '89, before the kids were born, and we loved it . Now the whole family is going !

Anne, next to Paris, of course, Tuscany, specifically northern Tuscany is my favorite place to travel. It's so beautiful, and charming and relaxing. Good for you!

Happy, I always loved du Maurier (most likely because her most famous book was "Rebecca," which when I was 13 or so was considered rather "adult" and maybe even a bit naughty!), and in particular "The House on the Strand" (I always was intrigued by the idea of someone wandering through a doorway/whatever and ending up in a different time). You found a real treasure!

I don't understand this thread. The title is "What are we all reading at the moment?" I don't know about anyone else, but AT THE MOMENT I'm reading posts on the forum. ;D

Shoesy, Shoesy, Shoesy...you've been hanging around that Danish girlfriend of yours too much lately. You're getting cheeky. Yes, Becky, I did find a treasure, that's why I ran like the wind . And dep, for what it's worth, I sometimes read something light just for entertainment. Beach reading. Not a thing wrong with that...don't be embarrassed.

Hey dep, I always have at least one or two "plane/beach" books going at the same time as anything serious (drives my SO nuts, he can't read more than one book at a time LOL).

Thanks, you guys have made me feel a bit better about my reading choices!! So I'll spill the beans and tell you I'm reading Stephen King's latest novel, Blaze. But I promise to go to the bookstore soon and get a very deep and serious sounding novel to impress you all with!

I do the same thing, Becky. It's a weird talent to be able to read two books at the same time...sort of like tapping your head and rubbing your tummy simutaneously .

And dep, I'm addicted to Robert B. Parker's Spenser series. Light reading at it's best. One step up from those bodice-ripper romances. It's all good.

Happy-I've been reading Parker's Jesse Stone and Sunny Randall series. But I may discontinue. I was impressed with the movies with Tom Selleck allthe books have in common are his name, chief and town. and I'm seriously tired of the F word. I read mysteries, or as the Coneheads would say "consume mass quanties" I call the thin romance books, that I can read in less than an hour, bathtub books. LOL safer than a library book. When I was in Paris for 20 days I was beginning to have serious book withdrawl. when I went over to London for one day I bought a couple of books and wouldn't you know one I had already read, for some reason a lot of British author books are published with a different title. the only time I read non-fiction is if someone recommends, such as Becky's choice Elainor (sic)

Penny, I like the Jesse Stone books too. But I have a serious crush on Spenser's friend, Hawk. Now THERE'S a man...gives me goosebumps just thinking about him I know what you mean about buying a book and finding out you've already read it. I always thought it meant I was reading too darn much. It is maddening though...

Stephen King books terrify me. I can't sleep at night after I try. He is a seriously demented man (even if he IS a Red Sox Fan).

I've had Lissey's Story on my night stand for months. I just have not gotten around to starting it yet.
