Thanks, IanK9! That does sound promising! I will have to keep an eye out for it! ( I hope they do air it in the States!). That would be something to look forward to watching! (I'll also have to keep an eye out for that book !).

Ian, thanks so much for the heads-up and the links -- sooner or later, it may make its way to the BBC America chanel (or one of the US public television stations) and now I will know to be on the lookout for it. Thanks again.

Looks good! I'd only come across it because Amazon had put the DVD in my recommendations! Eventually found details on the BBC Website under press releases - not quite sure why they are playing this one down. Their current methods are to trail a programme so much you tempted not to watch it when it is actually shown!

Just finished watching. Very good, many scenes where we can all go, yes been there, walked in that street, stood there etc. A good mix, and well commented on. The book is very good too! (And dragged by self away I may add from a programme on BBC4 titled, Paris Brothels- a history)!!! Best wishes

Ian, we watched it too........It was fascinating to know the history of Haussman and how he changed Paris, to see the old photographs, to discover that Haussman was buried at Pere Le Chaise and that 150 men were lined up and shot by a wall there. Restaurant Fevour looked very fancy indeed but the meal Sandrine ate was a work of art. I also enjoyed the history behind the word Bistro, the word having come from the Russian for quick. And of course Sandrine went up my favorite "Le tour Eiffel" even though she hated heights. ;D Oh and we also watched Paris brothels on BBC4 afterwards, how do I describe it......the history of the Paris Bordell was very fascinating and only really ended during the 1940's. Many were very grand and exuberant and some were very dingy and cheap. There was lots of flesh on show.....It went on to say that many women rotated their favours around each brothel until they ended up in the seedy ones or moved out of the profession upon marriage. One lady described how she grew underarm hair simply to excite the men, as seeing any body hair was extremely raucous and this helped her to get through clients faster LOL.....Most of the program was in French with subs, it was a very interesting documentry. ;D

Watched the programme last night having recorded it, as others have said great for pointing out places you have been etc. Have to say that for Paris enthusiasts it was very good, but for people who knew nothing it must have seemed very disjointed. Even though we have a couple of shelves full of Paris guide books etc there were still a few things we didn't know. After this first one I don't think it is going to match up to the Venice series - and I make the comparison becuase that's the way the BBC seem to be promoting it.
