To all Jewish posters - I'd like to wish you a Happy Shavuot !!! Here in Israel we celebrate by eating dairy dishes.

Well, I'm not sure what we're going to have because we're invited to friends. Oops........I should be getting dressed now instead of lingering on the forum.

Happy Holiday Shoesy. Ice Cream definitely qualifies as dairy. So enjoy even if it is not Berthillion.

"Shavout" That sounds like something I would shout at the neighbour's fat tomcat if he tried to sneak into my livingroom to devour a freshly caught and still kicking mouse..... ;D "Shavout, you darn puttycat !!! And take that filthy rodent with you !!!"

Hey Gitte, at least the tom cat has graduated from a mouse to a scone with cream and jam.

Hi everyone! Here I am the morning after that big meal, and I'm still bloated after eating pasta, quiches, salads, cake, etc. I'm invited to another one of those fattening meals tonight, and I'm so glad that my daughter's wedding isn't until August because I feel that it'll take a couple of months 'till I can fit into my dress again. And Gitte, it's funny that you should think Hebrew sounds weird when you speak a language that seems impossible to pronounce !!!!!!!!!!!!

cybee - Most of the dishes had cheese or cream in them, so it was a dairy meal. Not only that.........here in Israel when you refer to a meal as being dairy, people think of it as being non-meat.

We celebrate the harvest season. This holiday also commemorates the time when Moses received the Torah on Mount Sinai.

Yes, I'm curious, Shoesy. Can you tell us what Shavout is? And what the connection is to eating dairy? I think I'd sleep for a week if I ate all that cream at one meal.

Never mind. I don't think I read far enough through the thread before replying. But what is the connection to dairy?

I don't think there is any connection. It somehow has become a tradition in Israel (no one I know here seems to know why), but Jews in other countries probably have never heard of it. For all I know, it might have started because during all the other holidays we eat those large meat meals, so this way we get to eat something different. I really must find out when and how this tradition began.

Couldn't you find an equally glittery pic of someone in white sneakers, flashing her smartsy nailpolish
