Many moons ago I posted up this questionnaire on the other forum. It received many varied answers, some of you probably had a stab at answering it before. I thought it would be good fun to list it here as it was very useful for answering those all important first timer questions.
1. Favorite/most interesting area to stay 2. Best monument 3. Most recommended item of food to try 4. Easiest form of transport 5. Must visit museum 6. Best place to eat 7. Most romantic spot 8. Best night life 9. 1 thing I must do 10. Best time to see Paris

Andi, this is a tough one. For me these things seem to change with every trip. I'm still evolving and hopefully will continue to do so. As long as I can still travel I will continue to discover new and wonderful favorites in Paris.

I'll try. I do think I remember your other post but didn't bite. 1) to me, the 5th or 6th. 2) Cheese 3) I always return to Place Vendome standing on the street and seeing the column, the fountains and the EIffel Tower in the background surrounded by all the vehicles and those gorgeous light fixtures. 4) Metro 5) Musee des arts forains 6) After our last visit Cafe de la Nouvelle Mairie 5e. I want to go back to Paris just to eat there. 7) On a batobus in the evening 8) Standing on the edge of the Seine in the evening watching the lights 9) Vist Porte de Vanves flea market. I WILL get there one day. 10) Anytime

1. Favorite/most interesting area to stay : I've only stayed in the Marais, but I would love to go back and stay there again!
2. Best monument: Notre Dame
3. Most recommended item of food to try: Nutella & Banana crepes, a college students dream come true!
4. Easiest form of transport: Your feet
5. Must visit museum: Musee Rodin or D'Orsay
6. Best place to eat: I enjoyed Les Philosophes and Le Coude Fou
7. Most romantic spot: Wasn't really looking for romance on my trip, but I'm sure just about anywhere would do!
8. Best night life: I liked the area near my apartment, Rue Vielle Temple & Rue Du Bourg Tibourg
9. 1 thing I must do : See the Eiffel Tower sparkle
10. Best time to see Paris: Whenever you can and as often as you can!

Suzanne is right - this gets revised every trip. But, here's a stab:
1. Favorite place to stay: Ile St Louis 2. Best monument: Sainte-Chapelle or Arc de Triomphe (view from) or Eiffel Tower (view of, at night when lit up) 3. Food: cheese, cheese, more cheese (and Berthillon before, during and after the cheese), and since I consider wine a "food" I must include a St Emilion grand cru from any good year 4. Transport: Metro 5. Must visit museum: D'Orsay and Marmottan 6. Place to eat: have never tried most of the places that are at the high end, but we like La Pallette and have gone back several times (or, for a picnic, Jardin du Luxembourg) 7. Most romantic: walking along the Seine at night (especially on the bridges, and down at water level) 8. Night life: not into clubs, etc., would prefer just to go out and walk (but a concert at Sainte-Chapelle is high on my list, especially in summer) 9. Must do: make a serious search of depot-ventes and flea markets; attend performance at Opera Garnier; check out some jazz clubs 10. Any time except July and August

Andi, I remember this thread! As others of said, things change from visit to visit, so here goes: 1. Still the 5th/6th 2. Still like Saint-Séverin. You can actually be the only person in there and take some time out to reflect and remember. 3. Riz de veau ;D No, seriously, I love the variety of cheeses, and dried sausage, the boudin noir, Poilâne bread............... 4. Pieds! 5. At the moment, Rodin and the peace and quiet of the garden. Now if I could only get to the Orangerie! 6. Difficult one. We did make Le Bistro Cote Mer our "regular", but it is sadly closed. Now we have a "to do" list. However this sometimes takes the fun out of just "happening" across some little bistro and enjoying the ambiance as well as the cuisine. I would like to say LPC, but I would have to go several times to confirm it as "the best place to eat", and unfortunately we still have a mortgage to pay ;D 7. Pont des Arts 8. Love the cafe life around the 6th, and as you know we love La Palette, where we can also indulge in a plat de fromage avec Poilâne! 9. Same as before: keep on returning......... 10. With Karen! On reviewing the old thread, on the same page as my list, I came across that of phread where she mentions the easiest form of transport as "her bike". And again linking to another thread re the strikes, this is indeed confirmed!

I've only been once but here are my "first-timer" answers: Favorite/most interesting area to stay: We stayed in the 7th and it was convenient to walk to everything we wanted to see. It was interesting to see the government buildings and workers on our early morning walks. Best monument: Notre Dame Most recommended item of food to try: crepes both sweet (nutella and banana) and savory (ham and cheese) with a bottle of cider Easiest form of transport: visited during the strike so our own two feet were the mode of choice Must visit museum: Musee d'Orsay Most romantic spot: walking along any bridge over the Seine either in the early morning or at nightime I think it should be a law that you must stop and kiss your S/O on every bridge in Paris! Best night life: we stayed in the 7th, there wasn't much night life 1 thing I must do: Climb to the top of Notre Dame and see the gargoyles Best time to see Paris: went in the fall and loved it...I'm a autumn lover anyway, but the temperature in Paris along with smaller crowds made it very enjoyable

This is fun during a break this afternoon. Thanks for posting the questionnaire!
1. Favorite/most interesting area to stay - I have stayed in the 6th and in the 7th twice. Next trip, I'm going to stay in the Marais.
2. Best monument - The Eiffel Tower hands down
3. Most recommended item of food to try - Nutella crepes and all the cheese!
4. Easiest form of transport - My two feet!
5. Must visit museum - I'm not a museum person -- have not been to the Louvre in 3 trips! I did, however, enjoy the d'Orsay for about an hour before I started taking pictures of the T & A of Paris!!!!
6. Best place to eat - wherever you are when you're hungry and the posted menu sounds wonderful! (or Laduree, perhaps?!?!?)
7. Most romantic spot - Along the quais of the Seine or the bridges.
8. Best night life -- Strolling pretty much anywhere in Paris
9. 1 thing I must do - I want to spend a day walking and hanging out in cafes in Batignolles.
10. Best time to see Paris - Anytime you have the $$$$$$!
It will be so fun to read everyones' answers.
Thanks again for bringing this up.

1) I like the 6th best. Near to river as I can get. 2)View from Arc, and Notre Dame from any angle inside or out! 3) Cheese , Mussels, haricots verts(the ones in France are better then ours) Crepes , bread, pates and rillards. 4)Walking 5)The Louvre, no one has seen it all, I still have at least another 5 or 6 visits left before I can say that! LOL 6)Hit and miss , I did really enjoy to restaurants outside of Paris enough to recommend, but they are not in Paris so they do not go on this list! 7)Walking along the Seine 8)I don't do night life, clubs etc, I do think great conversation and a bottle of wine enjoyed at a cafe or bistro can do me for the evening. 9)Too much to list, I will have to return yearly for the rest of my life. Oh shucks. LOL 10)Anytime I can manage, but I do like longer daylight months best. I have gone in August and not died , which so really there is not bad time to go. On the other hand now that I say that , I don't know if I would choose to go in Jan, or Feb, I really hate rain and wind, I live with it, so I would probaly try and wait till at least April and go till November if I had my way( which I generally do since no one has ever forced me to go at other times, LOL )
