HI, Maybe I dreamed this but I am sure I read somewhere, probably on Trip Advisor, that when taking either the train or the metro from Paris to CDG that it is easy to get confused and end up somewhere far far from the airport. We are planning to go directly to CDG from Avignon our last full day in France and then take the train into Paris for what is left of the afternoon and an early dinner. we will then take the train to return to our airport hotel. Someone on trip advisor said take the RER B line and we will be fine. Does everyone agree with that? It is very easy for me to get confused and I don't want to end my vacation lost in some remote part of Paris. Thanks warmac

I haven't taken the RER to/from CDG in a long time, but I think you'll be fine because you first will go from CDG to Paris, then back. So, when you catch the train from CDG just note which line, and take the same one back (if I were guessing, I would say CDG probably is the end of the line but again, just look when you get off to see which direction you were going, and go the other way -- if you are a bit nervous, make a mental note of some of the intermediate stops on your way into Paris).
Your hotel shuttle (if I'm understanding correctly that you are going to check in and leave your bags) should drop you (and also pick you up) right at the CDG train station, and the driver may also know which line you want even before you go into the station.

I've taken the RER both ways recently and it is pretty easy. Going back to CDG there may be trains that spur off in a different direction from the airport so I think the trick is not to take just any train the stops at the platform...check the board that has the time and destination of the next train and also the front of the train. The stops are usually long enough too that you can ask other passengers if the train is indeed going to the airport!

The train does "split" at Aulnay-Sous-Bois, so you just want to be sure you get on the Train that's going in the direction of CDG, and NOT Mitry-Claye. Other than that, yes, it's really simple. If you happen to get on the wrong train, just be sure to get off before at or before Aulnay-Sous-Bois so you can change to the train going in the direction of CDG. The train designator for trains going to CDG will start with an "E", like ETAL or EMIR. The one's that go in the other direction usually start with an "I". So...two things to help: Make sure the train is going in the direction of CDG and be sure the designator starts with an "E". www.ratp.frClick on Horaires and follow directions, or; Click on the Plan Interactif, then click on the line. A box will appear that will let you click on the Schedule (Horaire) or the Plan de Ligne, which is a picture of the line with all the stops.
