The new terminal platform at terminal 2, called "galleries parisiennes" which is a 750m long and 88m wide platform will open this week, it is designed for 8.5 M passengers yearly and it should allow faster transits especially for travellers to/from the US coming from/going to asia, the middle east or the rest of france, it will be connected via an automatic metro to already existing terminal 2E. This new hub should make flight connections doable within 45 minutes.
Of course this new platform will primarily be used by Air France and the Skyteam and especially for the new A380 carrier. ADP predicts an increase of 20 million passengers yearly until 2010 on the CDG complex.
From an architectural aspect it is a a new concept for CDG, exit the ugly concrete buildings, it is made of glass and steel, a majority of passengers, in recent polls, expected to see the planes and the rollways rather than a grey wall so maybe in the future people will travel to Paris just to see the planes and eat in one of the restaurants who will cover more than 1400 m2 in the new terminal!

I am a bit bothered by that piece of news : I will be driving my eldest daughter to CDG on Friday . She will fly to Philadelphia, departure on terminal 2E of course, with Air France . Does that mean the "old" 2E or is that new platform also considered as being part of terminal 2E ?

2E remains 2E and from what I read the new thing is going to be operated little by little with just a couple of flights to start with and a max of 30 flights by the end of July so I don't think yours will be changed. But as I said, there should be a metro to take you from 2E to that new thing in case they thought it was a good idea to switch it Par contre vas-y en avance, avec 2 heures t'as à peine le temps de prendre un café...

Sans blague ;D ! Mind you, she is going with a student exchange program (she is only 15), and the summoning in front of the departure gate is at 9.30 am, while the plane actually departs at ... 1.15 pm !!! So I have to find the right gate by 9.30 am, but once I have handed her over I'll have plenty of time for soooo many coffees . Well, to be honest, I don't think that I will stay there until her plane departs . Since she is coming back at the end of July when the new terminal will be more active, I will ask on Friday if there is any change planned for that time .

Why not, I must remember to bring my camera . But I more and more think that I will definetely not wait for her plane to depart, especially as I have a 3.30 hrs drive back home ...

So Kasthor, does this mean the beginning of the end of being bussed all over the tarmac upon arrival? (she said hopefully)

Anne, you must do what makes you comfortable in seeing off a young daughter -- but you would not be able to wait with her until the plane departs in any case,as you will not be allowed through security without a boarding pass. So, if you wait while she checks in, you probably will not be there more than an hour or so just depending on how fast her group assembles and goes through the checkin process.
