This is a common question I have to deal with fairly often. I tend to get very excited about any upcoming trip I have planned to Paris ,, and many people , my husband included, just don't get why I am going " to the same place again"!!! Why don't you go somewhere different they 'll ask, . Well for starters , I do go other places, last November a friend and I had a quick visit to Hawaii. So it is not that I never like to go anywhere but Paris. They also say there are other nice places to go, I agree, I have been to other places, Rome, London, Venice, the south of france, Switzerland, Greece, etc, etc,, Many of these places I liked very much,, but, I still want to return to Paris often( whcih for our budget would mean every two years or so) .
I love Paris, I want to go EVERY YEAR, and in fact if I had my way at least twice a year would be ideal, Paris is such a large city, with so much to see, plus just the days of "doing " nothing much, there is no other city in the world that makes cafe sitting seem like an actual activity! LOL Who can say they have " seen" Paris , or worse "done" Paris in a week or two,,, it is impossible..
I try to explain this to my hubby, he really does not understand my " obsession" and whenhe is talking about ti , I start to wonder if maybe I am not crazy after all, since I have no real argument with his pints, other then " I must go back , I'm not done, I love it" ..

Paris is addictive. More it seems than many other cities. Paraphrasing: "If you are tired of Paris, you are tired of life."

I think most (or all) of us on this forum are addicted to Paris, Joan, so we know exactly what's going on in that pretty little head of yours.

My standard answer to those people are: "Don't people who own a holiday cottage or summer residence go the same place year after year after year ? And nobody thinks that's peculiar, right ? So Paris is my summer residence, OK ?" ;D

Most of the people who say things like that have probably never been there...and if they have been there and still say things like that, then they can stay far away!!

People know how much I love it and don't dare say it I guess, soon they will be saying "when are you moving there then?" as apposed to "not again!

Duh, do we need a reason? All I can say is I love it, don't know why, don't care. And yes I would love to live there and would really love to "understand French",

maybe we should just come with a lot of mumbled covert hints about this really hotblooded, young lover waiting for us in Pawee - with champagne and roses ready............. and that we don't know much about the tourist sights because he never lets us get out of bed..... hee-hee...... that would give them something to talk about !!! ;D

I added the "young" thing afterwards - who would believe us if we started to spread rumours about us going to Paris for some 60 year-old with floppy stomach skin and a round-the-clock need for Viagra ?

LOL, You are all too funny. Yes, I do realize that here on this board, that others WOULD understand,, it my "local" friends who I just don't have a good flip answer for, and although Gittes response would certainly shut them up,, on the ohter hand , I think my hubby would have plenty to say, all of it in the vein of "you are never going anywhere near that lecherous city again!
PS I agree, if I was going to have a cross continental fling( which I wouldn't) it would definately have to be a younger man! LOL

Well, kind of tagging with a comment of before I went to Paris. Most of my friends know how much I want to go, and I had many lean years so it was going to take some serious savings. After several years in Germany my son was stationed about a 3 hours drive from me. The first Christmas there, under the tree was a tube. Well, I'm assuming it's a poster, I couldn't even think of what it could be. Well, I opened and unrolled. There were four pastel watercolors approx 12 in X 18 in. Eiffel Tower, Arc, Notre Dome and Sacre Coueur, needless to say I cried. He had traveled to several countries while on leave, he had bought those on a trip to Paris and decided to hold on to them until he could give me in person rather than mail and take a chance they would get crushed, etc. . I had them framed and have two hanging in my bedroom and two in LR. Of course then I wanted to go more than ever. About a year later got a great job and then within two years went for work for almost 3 weeks. been twice (on my funds) since then and I'm hooked.Keep trying to win that lottery.

Hi, I'm sure this thread would have transgressed the TA forum!! Karen will kill me for this, but on our first visit in 1981, first night in a hotel around the corner from the Gare du Nord, we went downstairs for breakfast and found that it was 3pm!!!!! We still enjoy Paris........... ;D ;D ;D Best wishes
