Dear all,
with all the info you know now - what would it be like?
Don´t say "it depends", I´m interested in what would YOU do. How to distribute 7 days to so many interesting places a firstimer must see.
Yes - I confess, it is kind of self-interest, because I will be a firstimer in September, but I also think others could find it helpful, right? ;D

If I had only seven days, and it was my first time, there are of course all the popular sites that I would want to see. Yes, they will most likely be crowded with other tourists, but, it is only a fantasy to assume that what you would like to see others would not, the sites are popular as they are WONDERFUL!
Of course, the Eiffel Tower, even if one does not go up it, to go to the base and look up is enough!! When I took my friend to Paris back in 85 that is all she wished to do,, and since I had been up serveral times before that was fine with me.
The Louvre- I love this museum,, go everytime I can. It is not just a museum,( with world renown art) it was a residence of kings and queens, and some of the interiors (check out the gilding and ceilings in some areas) reflect it past majesty. It was a palace. It is the king of mueums to me, ( yes I know D'Orsay is many others favorites, but I am really into the older works,, )
Versailles- some would say not to waste a day when you are only there for seven, but, I loved it, and I have been three or four times, and when I return to Paris , I will go again. I gues you can see how personal preferences can play out here.
Notre Dame,, love it. Love the area around it( include Ste Chapelle also in this) , you have to take the time to just cruise around here, after seeing the cathderal,, the cafes, the river, the Seine, cross over to Latin Quarter , wander around there too!
My favorite view of Paris is from the top of the Arc, that alone makes it worth it to me, yes, it is a wonderful site itself( walk up the Champs to it) but the view is incredible, I love to look down and see the streets all fan out from it, and to your left( looking up Champs) Sacre Coeur in distance, to your right the Eiffel Tower, and then peek at the room top gardens on some of the very very expenisve buldings in the area! Ah, to live there !
Sacre Coeur is on many peoples list, I have done it twice, and wouldn't bother again, but, the area near by with all the portrait painters , artists, and cafes still enthralls many.
The great department stores, I am NOT a shopper, but Galleries Lafayette has an incredible glass dome ceiling that alone is worth looking at, never mind that I love to look at all the different things available , even if I don't buy.
Monoprix, cheapo department store, hit food floor and basements for cheap souvenirs, chocolates, mustards, etc.
Throw in a boat cruise to see the monuments lit up at night( very pretty) and plenty of wandering around seeing everything and nothing in particular , and that would do about 7 days for me.
There is of course many other wonderful museums, Rodin's, Cluny, and Orsay, so if you are so inclined add these in( I loved Cluny, small and intimate) . I have read there are hundreds of small museums in Paris and one could see a different one each day of the year , so based on your own interests you would never have to lack for a site to see!!
I plan on adding a few more next time, I hear there is a " costume" ( clothing through the ages, and , fashions etc) museum that is quite good!

7 days is a bit longer than what many first-timers have, but since there's a lot to see in Paris, you'll never see enough during that trip. In any case, I think that you should count on having some leisure time every day. Visiting the sights is a must, but strolling around is also a wonderful experience. I think you can see the major attractions and still have time to just get the feel of Paris. Don't forget.........walking around with a Berthillon cone in your hand is something that you'll probably enjoy doing more than once!
