www.montmartreabbesses.com/I know this is a long way away but my friend and I have just confirmed this apartment in Montmatre for Dec 08 and Jan 09. We wanted two bedrooms but with the cost of the Euro against the NZ dollar our budget was a bit limiting. I think that this looks great and the location okay. Would appreciate your thoughts . We have booked early as we are both over excited about having 5 weeks in Paris and wanted to get it as confirmed as possible . Its all go !!!

That looks like a great choice for such a long stay - you really would be crazed in a studio or similar, I suspect. Enjoy it! (Five weeks - wow!!)

Gitte knows more about that area than anyone i know. It is so hard to choose apartments. We've been looking and LOOKING fairly hard for about 1 month. It's almost a full time job!! There are so many sites to look at and you really have to study the area, pictures, maps like its an exam, unless you've been there fairly regularly. We've almost decided but changed our date from June to the last week of Aug, 1st week of Sept. CONGRATULATIONS ON YOUR 5 WEEKS OF PARIS. Susanb

The apt. looks lovely and very spacious. I particularly like the idea that you'd have the entire top floor to yourselves, which means no noisy upstairs neighbors.

I have stayed a few months in Montmartre and "nearly Montmartre", the 9th, and know the area fairly well. Everyone has pointed out the positives: spaciousness, full top floor of a 2 story building which is a huge plus, neighbor-noise wise, good kitchen, nice bathroom, Washer/dryer, well equipped. €3200/month for a 700 sq. meter apt. is a very fair price. I might add that the 1-block street is flat which is a rarity in Montmartre and has most necessities. Things for you to be aware of: you must be in good hill climbing condition as the neighbor hood is VERY hilly with hundreds of stairs; there appears to be no lamps for reading in any room and the furniture is less than Ikea grade. the Anvers metro is downhill from you which is fine leaving but a bit of a climb coming back if you are schlepping purchases. A better bet to me is the nice #85 bus which runs along Clingnancourt(your street dead-ends into it), going by the Marais, Louvre, Hotel de Ville, crosses the Seine in front of Notre Dame and stops at the beautiful Luxembourg Gardens. you should see the movie "Amelie" a few times before your trip because you will be smack dab in the heart of Amelie country.

Thanks so much everyone for your input. I must admit Laidback I did think that about the furniture myself - espcially the chairs in the lounge which don't look as if they are made for reclining in !. We thought long and hard about the hills but coming from NZ hills are pretty much standard so we are both use to them. The tip about the bus sounds great. We looked at literally hundreds of apartments and had narrowed a great one down in republique but a lot of them were not avaiable over the Christmas period and the one that we wanted fell through as they had another booking already for Christmas and New Year . We could also have waited and got one later in the year once they opened up bookings for Christmas but we are both impaitent and wanted it sorted now - I hope by the 5th week of lugging the many purchases ( as I know there will be) up that hill we do not live to regret our impaitence. The rub was that the Euro is only worth about 56 NZ cents so we have to double everything and this seemed to be the best value apartment we could get for our money with two bedrooms so that we could each have our own space. I am picking that the NZ dollar will drop even more by then so we wanted to be able to pay as much as we could while the dollar was at the higher rate. I have seen Amelie once before but will be off to the DVD store this afternoon for weekend viewings! Thanks again for all the advice.
