I finally decided on an apartment. I'm used to spending months and months making decisions like this but apartment availability is very limited for our time frame so I thought I'd better go ahead and book something now.
The owner (parisbestlodge) was extremely responsive while I was doing my research on Thursday and Friday, often getting back to me in less than an hour. I emailed him on Saturday morning to confirm that we did want the apartment and have heard nothing since. Please, please tell me that I'm just being an impatient American and I'll hear from him on Monday! I booked our (non-refundable) air around his dates and apartments in our price range with availability are few and far between.
Impatiently yours,
Jennifer

;D
Keep in mind that our Saturday morning is several hours later in Paris. It is the weekend and people may go away. If you haven't heard by end of our day on Monday send the e-mail again. If no answer by Wednesday morning, I would then call him.

Don't worry. Get started on checking out the neighborhood of the apartment, and that will help take your mind off of the delay. Are you a twin? Someone just signed up as jsmla2.

Thank you so much! You've eased my mind quite a bit. I'm just used to the 24/7 world we live in here in the States. This whole last minute (to me, anyway) planning thing has got me unnerved.
Ray, of course I have a twin. She's also named Jennifer and she's a technological idiot. She was having trouble logging in and tried a second account to see if that would work. It didn't so she called her son Sam who lives and breathes this stuff. On his advice she logged off AOL and logged in through Mozilla and, voila, success!
I, on the other hand, am a computer wunderkind.
Just kidding, if there are any admins out there please delete jsmla2 from your rolls. She's a pain in the rear.
Thanks,
Jennifer

Don't worry! Really, don't worry! The others are right - your guy is just enjoying his weekend, and also undoubtedly does not feel quite the same sense of urgency you would expect in the US, where the mere ability to have instant communication/access seems to translate into some sort of a requirement that it be so. Everything will work out fine!

In last weeks French lesson we were told it's what the French call "faire le pont" .......... (making a bridge but referring to a long weekend). Is that correct?

That's it!!
Now , does anyone remember the expression for chewing off the end of a baguette on the way home? It's a funny word and I've heard it several times .

Demarais, I cannot think of any specific expression for chewing off the end of a baguette (except from "grignoter", but that is not specific to eating bread) .
Yes, yesterday was a holiday (end of WW1), but since it was a Sunday there was no "bridge" . "Faire le pont" refers to a holiday which is either a Thursday or a Tuesday, and then many people will take the Friday or the Monday off to bridge with the week-end .

Sure, but it applies to many other situations as well : "grignoter" = "nibbling"
