We are planning a trip to paris in Junuary 2008. We have rented from Vacationinparis.com before and based on our previous experience, have decided to do so again. It is January so AC is not needed. I like to have at least a washing machine, a TV that get s some English speaking channels and not too many stairs to climb at the end of a long Long day. I'm 54 and hubby is 10 years older. Oh, the apartment we had last year did not have a wall mounted shower. I did not mind but he hated it. To save the peace, that is a must have.
So I'm trying to decide between the following apartments:
ID #3 ID#49 ID#50 ID#135 ID#154 ID#181 ID#180 ID#182
If you take the time to look at these apartments and give me your opinions I will greatly appreciate it. We've never stayed in the Marias so I'm leaning that way, but I'm really not sure about these locations.
Thanks, suzanne

We used VIP also, last May. I poured over all the options available, and then picked one while on the phone with one of their reps. From your list, I like 180 and 181 best. Both appear to be excellent values, not in the Marias though.

Hmm, $140 a night for a studio seems rather expensive to me. If you're willing to forego a heavily touristed area such as rue Cler, you can find a much more spacious apartment in a more charming neighborhood in the same range. I'd recommend taking a peek at VRBO.com for a bigger variety.

Hi Suzanne. After looking at most of the apts, here's my opinion for what it's worth:
#50 - I couldn't stay here even if was free. The furnishings are just too ugly for words.
#182 - Gorgeous. (I'm talking about the picture of George Clooney on the bedside table) The apt looks great too.
#154 - Someone on this board stayed here recently! I remember because someone asked if the windows had blinds (they do). I'll have to go back and look, but I think it was a glowing review.

I like the veiw from #154 too. I'm the one who asked about the blinds, by the way. But it is a small studio with a Murphy bed. There is an elevator and it looks like it would be conveinient for the AF bus. I am not really sure if I like that neighborhood.

I just looked again and I can't agree more about the ugly furnishings in #50. My back is out and the pain meds must have blurred my vision last night.

I will take a look at VRBo today. I also am considering going with Perfectly Paris. She has a couple of apartments in the 17th that look good. Most of her places are in Mont Marte. We like Mont Marte but I've not considered staying there because I think we would soon tire of the hilliness.

Montmartre is, indeed, hilly. The 17th is relatively flat. I believe most of Gayle's apartments in the 17th are in the same neighborhood as mine--Batignolles. Of course (in an unashamedly commercial vein), you might as well take a look at ours, too (www.RentalApartmentParis.com).

Truffaut - is your apartment in the "relatively flat" area of Batignolles? That area is at the very top of my "next" list to just spend an entire day walking and looking and sitting and drinking and ......... I have a small file on the places I want to see and the "walks" to get there, the Parc, the church, the cafes, etc., etc. In fact, I think you once answered a post on Fodors (or one of the boards) for me regarding Batignolles.
It got very chilly here in the Chicago area last night after the major heat/humidity that seemed to have lasted for a VERY long time!
What is the current weather in Paris these days, anyone?

What is the current weather in Paris these days, anyone? If you go to the home page of www.OurParisBlog.com, there is a little weather gizmo that tells you what going on in the skies over Paris 24/7!

Suzanne...if you are interested in the Marais or St. Germain I would highly suggest you look into http://www.parisbestlodge.com....Thierry is on top of his game...answers all emails promptly and his feedback on TA is excellent. You simply give him a deposit in your own currency...which he holds and then returns to you when you leave. You pay him in full in Euros when you arrive. If you plan on the 17th I would definitely go with Truffaut's apt! Look at those photos! And the detailed and beautifully presented website! Nice job, Truffault!!

Trechic! That is a great apt. site. I found 3 that I really like in the area I want and the rate is quite reasonable. Thank you, thank you!

Oh, I am so happy! I will be leaving on Friday for a 10 night stay in the Marais studio. Is that one of the ones you are interested in? I will be reporting in during my stay as you know, he has a computer all hooked up there too! One of the woman from TA stayed in my studio in Sept and also stayed in his studio last year in the 6th and she said everything was fantastic.
