Joan, here is the hotel where Sandy and I stayed during the London GTG : www.alhambrahotel.com/Pros : Very cheap, very clean, friendly staff, good breakfast included Cons : Incredible tiny bedrooms and bathrooms (I had a double bedroom, I cannot imagine how two people can share this room), bathroom badly showing its age, noisy (not from the street, the noise coming from the other rooms and hallways) . I recommend it, but be careful, quite a few bedrooms have no bathroom, they have shared bathroom on the landing . Thanks but no . I have booked two nights at Hotel des Grands Hommes at the end of August when my daughter takes some entrance exam in Paris, and by booking many months ahead I got a standard double room at 100 euros per night without breakfast, and I could have had it for even cheaper if I had chosen a not-cancellable room . 100 euros is VERY cheap considering the location and also the quality of the hotel . Hubby and I stayed at their sister, next-door Hotel du Panthéon in 2007 and loved it .

Joan, when we go to London we stay in Kensington at base2stay which is an aparthotel and not too expensive. It is well reviewed on Tripadvisor. The rooms we have had have been very clean with a small area which has a microwave, kettle, sink, crockery, cutlery. It is in a nice residential area and you can access the whole of London by using the nearby Earls Court underground. Have a look at their website.

Thank you Anne and Fiona. They both look fairly good.. Fiona , I had seen Base2stay before and thought rooms looked really new and clean,, is that my imagination, or is it a fairly new hotel?
Anne, yes, I thought Hotel Des Grand Hommes was very nice,, and I am kicking myself , as when I looked a month ago prices were very low, but now are creeping up,, I always seem to wait too long to be very best prices as I keep looking instead of just making up my mind and committing.LOL
London certainly seems alot more expensive then Paris, but that could just be my limited perception.

Joan, I think Base2Stay opened about 3 years ago. It is in an old original building, overlooking greenery in the square opposite. We have only stayed in their largest room which sleeps 4. It is a great size with lots of space but I can't comment on the others. The interior is new, clean and contemporary. The mini kitchen was great because it meant that we could save on breakfast and in addition we usually eat about one meal in the room. There are convenient shops closeby and one of them is an 'M&S Simply Food' which we found really convenient. It was like staying in an apartment but with the convenience of having people on reception who were able to assist if required. We found them to be really helpful.

I just did a search on the Grands Hommes and was amazed to see Anne paid 100E for it!
I have always paid in the 200E range! Double room.
