This is a charming spot dropped in the middle of an otherwise uninteresting street near the Pompidou/Quartier de l'Horloge.
And a place to sample...aligot!!! That delicious combination of mashed potatoes, tomme cheese, and garlic whisked together in copper pots and stretched...........before your very eyes!!! The pots of aligot are kept on burners in the dining room and the waiter will refill plates if wanted/needed!!
We arrived on a Sunday afternoon(yes open Sundays!) without reservations and were seated at the Grand table(communal table) in the front room. Good bread , butter, and small pot of pate placed before us. I ordered the "regional menu" a 3 course menu with 2 choices in the first two courses and a choice of dessert. Had the bacon and lentil salad, aligot with sausage, and 3 little pots of flavors of the Auvergne cremes!
After the lentils are served on your plate the bowl(could feed a large family) is left on the table(for seconds, thirds....!) Good mustard bite, plentiful bacon. Then the aligot show....had already observed this at other tables but did want to see my own stretched!!! Delicious served with a large country sausage.
Before dessert is served a plate of a sweet brioche type bread/cake is brought to the table and left through cafe.
The flavors of the little pots were mint, verbena, and orange. .
Delightful! Cafe served with a rock sugar spoon. (Since I do not sweeten my coffee this was cute to look at .... guess I could have asked for a regular demitasse spoon but not needed!)
We asked for a bottle of a regional red and got a good one..sorry did not make note of it..too busy enjoying it all..but I'm sure you'll get a good recommendation too as service was efficient and courteous!
A family of four in the room...the two little ones seriously enjoying their aligot and bread and butter!!!
Other dishes, including, lamb(next time!), Steak with marrow bone, rhubarb soup, all looked very nice too.! And not expensive!
And yes they do do groups..they have several rooms. But on this Sunday afternoon they were only using the front/main room and one upstairs room. The family of four were locals, as was an older man dining alone, and a few twosomes. A couple of other tourist tables. We were joined at the grand table by only a Psychiatrist(!) from Alsace who said he visits every time he comes to Paris!
PS: See Aligot thread in this section!
