Two questions:
1. Where is there a good bakery in the Marais for good baguette? I am near rue Archives and Rue Rivoli. I had a decent one today, but nothing great.
2. Are there any bars or cafes that would be ok to go to by myself? I'm not planning on drinking heavily or anything like that, just a cocktail. But I don't want to go to the French equivalent of a singles bar.

Willow,
My French friend who lives in Paris (and who is much younger than me ;D ) hangs out regularly at this bar called Lou Pascalou. It's his favorite bar in Paris. 14, rue des Panoyaux Paris 75020 I just googled for the address and found this review - I haven't been there yet, but it sounds like what you're looking for (and I trust my friend and know his tastes - he wouldn't be into the typical "pick-up bar" scene):
Well hidden in a little square in the Menilmontant district, this bar is worth seeking out, mainly because it is warm and welcoming to newcomers and regulars alike. Follow bartender Mourad's advice and sample the best mint tea in the district whilst eavesdropping on the conversations of local artists, whose works adorn the walls. Mourad has also opened a restaurant just over the road called La Boulangerie which is happily inexpensive and serves great food.

La Boulangerie , posted by Sister, was a particular favorite of Darcy on her last 2 trips. She said the food was excellent and the price very right.
Actually you can sit down ..or stand up.. at just about any cafe.

Hi Willow, Glad to see you are having fun. This is a bit far from where you are staying but le Fumoir has a nice bar in the front, restaurant in back. In good weather tere are small tables out front. Quite near the Louvre. Up the street toward the Seine is a small patisserie with tables--great for breakfast and lunch as well as early supper. You can also get excellent sandwiches to take out and eat in a park.

Au Levain du Marais 32, rue de Turenne 75004 Paris Tél : 01-42-78-07-31 Saint-Paul
This is often mentioned as one of the better boulangeries in Paris.
Café Amnésia is a very pleasant bar--vintage posters on the wall, banquettes, overstuffed leather chairs, big windows overlooking quiet streets, not too smoky. It's a gay bar, but very mixed and not at all a "pick-up" bar! It's on the corner of rue Vieille du Temple and rue des Rosiers.

I'll have to give Au Levain du Marais a try. I had some bread from PAUL today and it was really good! I actually saw La Fumoir yesterday on my way to the Louvre and it looked pretty neat! Cafe Amensia is only a few minutes away so I may give that a try first!
Thanks everyone!
