Yes he did!! Did you not all know of the famous anal fistula of Louis XIV?? The successful surgery on the King's sensitive issue made surgery and surgeons acceptable. You can see the very instruments in the Museum of the history of Medicine. I went last trip. It's a great museum if you have an interest in science or medicine. Alas, you have to read the plaques (as best you can) in French. It's a shame this limits the patronage amongst tourists because I thought their collection was very representative of all the key developments in medicine. No crowds either - funny that!

Really ironic...but the evening before our last full day in Paris I started not feeling that great. By the morning I knew I had a full blown cold. So inbetween visiting sights, I headed to a pharmacie and explained my symptoms and the pharmacist got me some magic pills. I did have to use my Berlitz phrase book from the class I took, but I cannot tell you how happy I had that with me! And the date of this was July 4th...so ironic timing with this post:)
