Amy! Amy! Amy! Goooooooooo and follow your heart's longing! I have felt like I was dropped on the wrong continent my whole entire life. If I could have chosen at the age of 5...I would have said it was Paris I was meant to be. Now I am just turning 57 and will be making my very first trip there! I am more than curious to know if what I feel drawn to is going to embrace me as I have longed to embrace it for all these many many years. If you are able to go and to do it...then you have absolutely nothing to loose and so much to gain. Life is about experiences and the decisions that we make....the good and the not so good. But it is all there for our benefit...to learn from. GOOOOOOOOOOOO!

Ah, Trechic..you sound a lot like me! I always loved Paris/France. I took French in Jr. High and High School (most of what I learned is now sadly forgotten !) and I was enchanted by the language and the country that gave rise to it! But why? I never got to visit it until last year! I am now an addict! You will find your notions confirmed when you finally are at Paris......Paris est charmant, merveilleux et romantique ! I am determined to go back as oft as possible ! I used to speak what little French I knew to my children when they were little (not much, mind you... a few phrases here and there) and my daughter said it was my obvious love of France that made her decide to have one of her majors be French and she has studied now in France and plans to go back! Ah! C'est la vie!

Sometimes I wonder if all us Paris buffs (right word?) may have lived in France/Paris in some previous lives, though I don't reallly believe that stuff. Isn't it funny how we all get the same feeling when we arrive ? I feel like pulling on my oldest, comfiest sweater - aaahhh.... NOW finally I am home again where I belong.

I am trying to trace back my family history (which is not that easy) My maiden name was Delves and was told that a long time ago it was written and pronounced differently D'elves with accents over the E and that my great grandfather was French, how much of this is actually true I do not know as there is no longer anyone to ask. So far the name goes back to the 1500's in my area and there were famous and rich Delves' here(Delves Hall, Staffordshire), but wether any of them travelled and lived in France/Paris is a different matter. I like to think that I come from a rogue element that absconded to Paris!

Good luck with your family history, Andi. I've been interested in that and done quite a bit of it myself, tho haven't had the time recently. It would be fun if you could trace an ancestor back to Paris!
