I too saw this show , back in 1985. It sucked then and I am sure it sucks now. I do recall just trying to make sure I got my "share" ( ok, more then my share) of the champane included in my ticket. I remember sitting at a long table, and just being not impressed as the room had the smell of too many people in it. I had gone to Las Vegas three or four years before and thought it would be like the Ann Margaret show I had seen. I was taken by my dad, I did not even know who this Ann was, but, the show was so well done, she danced , she sang, the sets were lovely, the costumes devine. I thought the Moulin Rouge would be even a hundred times better,, HA!
It is a shameful tourist trap. And, as pointed out on this travel show I was watching recently, most of the dancers are not even French!!

Gitte, one probably could do a complete psychological analysis based on that!

Lol! I had to laugh at the depressed python consulting Dr. Freud scenario..Gittek~ So misunderstood he is! ha! Say, that reminds me...did not we used to call you..something about Dr. Freud!? What was that all about...I just recall it was amusing...maybe I have to go see Dr. Freud to ask why I have blocked this memory! ha! (or maybe ..worse yet..it is a false memory! ha!).

I have never wanted to go and I heard such shocking stories of being ripped off. You know, that money would have been better spent going to one of the great restaurants for lunch (cheaper) . I see it as Panto for adults - dreary. You know, many of the dancers are Australian - not even French! Rip Off!

This is so funny it is sad. When we went we were crammed into a corner like sardines. I believe there were 6 of us at a table meant for 4. I kept wondering how everybody was supposed to get out in case there was fire. This made it even more difficult to concentrate on the show. There were tons of Japanese tourists in the front rows and they all seemed to be chain smoking. Forget about using the bathroom. The coat check was a mob scene. So we finally get out of there, in bad need of a toilet, only to be stuck waiting for what seemed like a million roller bladers to pass so we could cross the street. This was while the strip club guys were yelling at people to come into their establishments.
All in all, this was not a night for fond memories of Paris. Thank god the hotel had a toilet off the lobby. I would have never made it to the room, that's for sure.

Gitte, thank you for the post. The closest we to was driving past and now I am glad we didn't go. I heard a similar report from some people we met on the way to Paris.
I'm sorry you had such a bad time, but at least you can say you have seen Paris warts and you still love her!

puipui - please remember also to take a stroll up Rue Lepic (and further). The western uphill side of Montmartre - and the northern downhill - are quiet, pretty and very oldworld Paris. Lightyears away from the hustle and bustle on Place Blanche (where MR is).
