Yes, HappyGoin, I know what you mean! Right after my trip to Paris, I was floating with happiness..then I started to think..hmm..didn't do this...didn't do that...ARG! I HAVE TO GO BACK! This was not a long process..ha! Yes, planning or at least dreaming of (with all intent to follow through) another trip to Paris is the only way to survive Paris withdrawal angst !

I remember that I didn't really feel depressed the day I left Paris for two reasons: 1) I had one very annoying blister on the bottom of my little toe, and I felt that I couldn't walk anymore, which made my preferred Paris activities extremely difficult, and 2) I was very anxious to tell everyone I knew how much I loved Paris. Well.........a couple of days later my blister was gone and I had already told the whole world that I was in love with Paris, so I was more than ready to return to the most beautiful city on earth. ;D

For me it is a visit to the Cafe de la Mairie at the Place St Sulpice. Preferably with a treat from neighboring Pierre Herme!

phread !!!! You saved my day !! I was wondering where to savour the delights of Monsieur Hermé - and of course: I can take them to Place de la Sulpice. Last summer I read the hairraising chapter about the murder in Saint Sulpice in the "Da Vinci Code" in exactly that café - just before visiting the church for the first time. OOOOOHHHHH, that was spooky !!!!
BTW - I have never had any cakes/pastries from H. before - so I look very much forward to them. AND they can be combined with a visit to La Foire de Saint Germain !!!

I am sorry to be responding so late...but I just read the thread with everyone's answer to my question as to what was special about Basilique St. Denis. It is definitely on my list now and I just want to thank everyone once again for their input! Gitte, thank you so much for the photos and the directions! As usual - you are in generous form!! I know you are in Paris at this moment, and I know your trip will be fabulous and I cannot wait to hear every little detail of it - upon your return!!

Wow,, so exciting to think someone I " know" is arriving in Paris shortly! LOL Vicarious thrills,, can't wait to see if we hear from Gitte while she is there, but of course I totally understand those ( moost likely me also) who wouldn't want to waste one moment of their holiday trying to find an internet cafe and posting!! Still, I hope we do hear from her!

I am not sure why, but every trip I visit Palais Royal. I suppose I like the calm it exudes and the kind of enclosed feel with people always seated around the fountain. And one never knows who or what will be clamoring over the striped concrete installations; often it is young children and they make it come alive. And I always take loads of pictures of that wonderful beaded/glass ball metro entrance. And then to wander back through gal. Vivienne where the sun highlights the wonder floors. Well, I guess I just described why I always return there.

Greyghost -- doesn't that Metro entrance remind you of a woman in dangly earrings?

Becky...sorry for the late reply. Now that you write that it does. Or that scene at the end of the movie "The Red Balloon." I really love it when the sun comes through it. Wish I were there now.
